Run two independent encoder jobs on the remote server, with each job sending one prerecorded video to its own YouTube live event using that event’s server URL and stream key. YouTube’s published limits allow up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, so two feeds fit if other broadcasts are not using up the channel limit. What you need for two simultaneous streams
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream, with two distinct live events created or scheduled.
- A remote server capable of running two encoder processes at once and sustaining both outbound video feeds.
- One prerecorded video file for each feed, plus the correct server URL and stream key for each event.
- An encoder that supports the output settings you plan to use. YouTube documents encoder workflows but does not prescribe a specific two-file command, operating system, server size, or process supervisor.
Think of this as two separate broadcast chains, not one stream copied twice: file A goes through encoder A to event A; file B goes through encoder B to event B. Label the files and event credentials clearly to avoid sending the wrong program to the wrong event.
Check YouTube live-stream eligibility first
Before configuring the server, confirm the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and the channel has no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until broadcast day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup and eligibility guidance.
Create two events and retrieve their credentials
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the first live event.
- Open that event’s Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key.
- Create or schedule the second event and copy its own URL and key.
- Store the pairs separately, labeled by event and file. Treat stream keys as credentials: anyone with a key may be able to send a feed to its associated event.
Use the URL and key belonging to each event together. YouTube’s stream settings documentation describes where these values are used; its encoder basics explain the encoder connection.

Run one encoder job per video
- On the remote server, configure encoder job A to read prerecorded file A and send its output to event A’s server URL and stream key.
- Configure a second, independent job for file B and event B. Do not reuse event A’s credentials for the second feed.
- Start both jobs and verify each event’s preview in Live Control Room before the intended public start.
- Keep both jobs running for the intended broadcast. Use monitoring and restart controls appropriate to your encoder and server environment.
This is the operational application of YouTube’s documented encoder workflow; YouTube does not publish a specific command line for running two prerecorded inputs. Verify commands and service-manager configuration against the current documentation for the encoder and operating system you choose rather than treating an unverified example as an official YouTube recipe.
Choose encoder settings for each event
Use the same sound technical settings independently on both jobs, adjusting resolution and bitrate to suit each file and the connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. Its encoder guidance covers H.264, H.265, and AV1 video codec options, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant-bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds). Match the encoder output to the resolution and bitrate planned for each stream; consult YouTube’s encoder settings for current specifications.

Two jobs mean two simultaneous outbound feeds. Test whether the server’s network connection can sustain their combined upload load, with headroom for variation. If either job transcodes, allow for the additional CPU demand. YouTube recommends testing upload capacity, but its guidance does not specify a universal CPU, memory, or bandwidth requirement for this particular two-feed workload; server sizing depends on the files, output settings, encoder, and provider.
Preflight both broadcasts
- Start each encoder early enough to inspect its own Live Control Room preview.
- Check that file A appears in event A and file B in event B; confirm the correct event watch pages and visibility settings.
- Inspect stream health and monitor both picture and audio. YouTube recommends testing and checking preview and quality before relying on a stream; see its testing and monitoring guidance.
- Confirm both jobs remain active together and the server connection is not saturated before the scheduled start.
Common problems and fixes
The second stream will not connect
Check that the channel has not reached its active-stream limit, that each job uses the intended event’s URL and key, and that the encoder supports the selected protocol and settings. YouTube’s published limits are 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key; other active broadcasts count toward the channel total.

The wrong event shows the video
Stop the affected job, compare its URL and key with the event’s Live Control Room, and correct the pairing. Keep each event’s credentials and file configuration labeled separately to prevent mix-ups.
One or both feeds have poor quality or drop out
Inspect Live Control Room stream health, confirm the encoder settings match YouTube’s guidance, and test the server’s sustained upload capacity with both jobs active. If the server is transcoding, check CPU load; if the network is saturated, reduce the planned output demands or use a server connection with more capacity.

The preview is unavailable before the broadcast
Recheck live-stream eligibility and activation status, then verify that the encoder has started with the correct credentials. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s setup guidance.

A remote server gives you control over the encoder processes, but you are responsible for process configuration, sustained outbound capacity, monitoring, and recovery. When comparing hosting or encoding options, confirm that the service can run the required independent processes, handle both feeds’ egress, provide enough CPU headroom if transcoding, and offer usable monitoring and restart controls. YouTube discusses both local encoders and cloud encoding, but does not endorse a VPS provider or establish provider-specific specifications.

A relay that distributes one feed to multiple destinations is not automatically suitable for two different prerecorded programs. Confirm that any alternative can produce two separately controlled YouTube events with different video inputs.
