You can run multiple YouTube livestreams from one PC by creating a separate stream in YouTube Studio for each feed and configuring an encoder for each stream’s server URL and key. YouTube currently allows up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, with both limits applying at once. Your actual capacity depends on the computer’s encoding resources and stable upload bandwidth—not a universal number of streams per PC.
What you need to know before running several streams
- YouTube limits: no more than 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key at the same time. These limits apply concurrently; reaching either one prevents starting another stream. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and limits before a production launch, since platform rules can change.
- One feed needs its own configuration: create or select each stream in YouTube Studio and give the encoder the matching YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Your PC and internet connection are shared bottlenecks: multiple simultaneous outputs increase encoding work and total outgoing bitrate. YouTube does not publish a universal PC specification that guarantees a particular number of concurrent streams.
- 24/7 operation requires oversight: YouTube’s setup advice explains how to preview and check a stream; it does not guarantee unattended uptime or prescribe a tested redundancy design.
Check channel eligibility first
YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also sets a minimum age of 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before you plan to go live.
Set up each YouTube stream and encoder
- Create or select a stream: open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a separate stream for each feed, or select an existing stream whose settings you intend to use.
- Copy the matching connection details: for each stream, use the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s stream settings. Enter that URL and key in the corresponding encoder output. Keep keys private: someone with a key may be able to broadcast to that stream.
- Set the output profile: choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to fit the source video, your computer, and your available upload bandwidth. There is no single recommended per-stream bitrate or PC configuration for an unspecified workload; use the guidance for your encoder and the content you are streaming.
- Repeat and label carefully: associate each encoder output with the correct stream and key. Clear labels reduce the risk of sending the wrong program to the wrong channel or stream.
- Start with a test: start the encoder output, then confirm that the correct feed appears in the Live Control Room preview before relying on it.
YouTube’s encoder guide covers the encoder workflow, stream URL, and key. Do not assume that one encoder application or a particular number of outputs is supported by every PC; that depends on the software, hardware, settings, and workload.
Calculate upload bandwidth for all outputs
Add the outgoing bitrates of every stream to estimate the bandwidth your connection must sustain. For example, if three outputs are each configured for bitrate B, the streams together require approximately 3 × B of upload capacity before accounting for other household or office traffic. Use measured upload capacity, not the download speed shown in a broadband advertisement.

YouTube says the total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. In practical terms, keep combined stream bitrate at or below roughly 80% of the upload capacity you can reliably sustain, leaving room for normal variation and other network use. - Check upload speed at the location and time where the PC will run; a speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee of sustained capacity.
- Account for other devices and traffic sharing the same connection.
- If streams buffer, drop frames, or lose connection, lower the total bitrate or move the PC to a more stable connection before assuming the encoder needs an upgrade.
Assess the PC’s encoding capacity
The PC must encode each output unless your workflow uses an external encoder or a cloud relay. The load depends on the number of feeds, resolution, frame rate, scene complexity, encoding settings, concurrent applications, cooling, and the specific hardware. YouTube’s official guidance does not establish CPU, GPU, memory, or storage requirements that guarantee a given count of 24/7 streams.

YouTube’s encoder guide describes NVIDIA GPUs with NVENC as having a hardware-based encoder that can perform hardware video encoding rather than relying on the CPU for that work. This is a capability statement, not an independent benchmark or a recommendation of a particular GPU model. NVENC does not remove other constraints: encoding settings, system thermals, software support, network capacity, and the rest of the workload still matter.
Before committing to continuous broadcasts, test all intended outputs together at their planned settings. Watch the encoder’s resource indicators and the streams’ playback; a machine that handles one feed is not necessarily able to handle several without dropped frames or instability.

Choose local encoding or a cloud relay

These are broad selection criteria, not a performance guarantee for a particular computer or provider. YouTube outlines the distinction in its guide to streaming across platforms.
Test, monitor, and plan for interruptions
Before leaving any stream unattended, follow YouTube’s live-streaming tips: check the Live Control Room preview, verify that the event is accessible, confirm archive files are growing, and monitor audio and video quality. A successful preview does not prove that a setup will stay up indefinitely.

For continuous operation, decide who or what will detect and respond to encoder, network, power, and platform interruptions. YouTube’s published setup guidance does not guarantee 24/7 uptime or specify a universal failover arrangement. Test the recovery steps you intend to use rather than assuming a stream will restart correctly after every outage.
