To keep gaming reviews and walkthrough recordings playing continuously on YouTube, send a playlist of videos to a YouTube Live event through a desktop encoder or a cloud playback service. Use a local encoder if you need hands-on control of gameplay overlays and audio; choose cloud playback for prerecorded videos if you do not want a computer at home to stay on. If you need YouTube to save a reliable replay, make shorter events: YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours.
Choose how to play the recordings

For a DIY setup, YouTube’s encoder workflow is the natural starting point for a gaming feed. A service does not remove the need to check rights, test playback, or decide how you will preserve the VOD.
Prepare the channel and Live event
- Enable live streaming early. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the event. Set its title, description, visibility, and stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this workflow.
- Copy the ingest details into your encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Build the playback sequence. Add the reviews and walkthrough VODs you want to rotate, and choose transitions that make sense for the recordings. Playlist design depends on your encoder or service; YouTube does not prescribe a particular loop layout. Use only material you have permission to broadcast and archive.
- Preview before starting. Check picture, sound levels, overlays, and the public watch page. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the output; use Live Control Room’s preview before starting the encoder.
- Start the encoder and monitor the event. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the feed, then check playback on the channel or watch page and on a mobile device. Keep an eye on audio and video quality throughout.
Keep the stream and its archive separate
A continuous feed is not a guarantee of a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the platform VOD matters, schedule shorter events, start a fresh event for the next block, and check the Live tab in Studio after each event. The 12-hour guidance is YouTube’s current archive guidance, accessed October 3, 2026; it is not a promise that every shorter stream will archive without issues. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Keep a local recording when the VOD has lasting value. YouTube recommends a local archive backup, which gives you another copy if the platform archive is missing or incomplete. A local recording requires storage sized for your own bitrate and retention needs; there is no single capacity that fits every stream.

Clear rights for both the live feed and the replay
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use the material in both the live stream and its archive under YouTube’s livestream terms. Gameplay permission does not necessarily settle the rights for every soundtrack, promotional clip, or other third-party material in a recording, nor does it automatically cover every territory or later VOD use.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can interrupt or terminate a live feed, and a completed archive can receive a Content ID claim. Check the game publisher’s video policy and the music terms for each recording. If a rights holder has licensed material for your channel, YouTube says the channel may need to be allowlisted in Content ID to avoid interruption. Troubleshoot common failures
- Live streaming is not enabled: verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned launch.
- The encoder does not connect: recheck that the stream URL and key match the event in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The feed connects but playback is wrong: inspect the Live Control Room preview, then check audio, overlays, and the watch page on another device. YouTube recommends monitoring quality rather than assuming a connected encoder means viewers receive a good feed.
- The stream ends unexpectedly: check the encoder, computer, power, and network for interruptions. YouTube’s monitoring guidance does not promise a failover system or an uptime level for a local setup.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: check the event in Studio’s Live tab. If the event ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have been captured; use shorter events and retain a local recording for future streams.
- A stream is interrupted or the VOD receives a claim: review YouTube’s copyright notice and verify the rights for the matched game audio or other material. Resolve permission issues before replaying the same content.
