You can run an all-day YouTube Live loop from a low-power PC by sending a prerecorded video through an encoder such as OBS, using a conservative bitrate that your measured upload connection can sustain, and testing the complete setup before going live. The PC must remain powered on and connected throughout the broadcast. For a stream that runs beyond 12 hours, keep your own recording: YouTube warns that it may not archive a stream that long.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and plan the stream
- Your channel must have live streaming enabled and verified, with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until broadcast day.
- Decide whether this should be one continuous event or a sequence of shorter streams. A restart creates a distinct stream and may change the watch page or interrupt viewers.
- Choose a video you have the right to use. A live broadcast is still subject to YouTube’s copyright rules; using prerecorded material does not make copyrighted music or footage safe to rebroadcast.
- Check the PC’s encoder support, available upload bandwidth, power continuity, and whether you need a complete replay. No single low-power PC specification guarantees a particular resolution or frame rate.
YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a specific PC, UPS capacity, or Indian internet connection. Conditions vary by location and provider, so use measurements from the place and time you plan to stream.
Choose resolution and bitrate for the PC and connection
Measure upload speed at the same location and under conditions similar to the broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom; shared devices and network traffic can reduce the bandwidth available to your encoder. The stream bitrate must not exceed the upload bandwidth you can actually sustain. A download-speed result is not a substitute for an upload test.

These are YouTube-published H.264 ingestion recommendations, not measurements of Indian broadband performance or a guarantee that your PC can encode continuously at the listed setting. The first figure is the minimum and the second is the recommended bitrate. See YouTube’s encoder settings for its current guidance on other codecs and formats.
For a low-power PC, start with a lower resolution and frame rate that your hardware can sustain, then run a test using footage with motion and audio similar to the actual loop. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live video to multiple output formats, so viewers can receive different playback options. That does not remove the need to send a stable, supported input.

Set up the encoder and connect it to YouTube
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, confirm that the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and choose the intended visibility and schedule. The exact screen labels may change; follow the stream setup prompts in Studio.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event into your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, share it, or include it in screenshots.
- Configure the encoder. Use a video codec supported by both the encoder and YouTube, such as H.264. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, CBR bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds). It recommends RTMPS. For SDR, it specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth.
- Load and loop the video. Add the prerecorded video as the encoder’s media source and enable looping. Confirm the source continues playing after it reaches the end; a stopped source can leave the stream with a frozen or blank picture.
- Start with a restrained output. Set the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you selected from your connection and hardware tests. Avoid assuming that a codec or setting listed by YouTube is supported by your particular PC or encoder.
- Start the encoder and check Studio. Open the Live Control Room preview before making the event public. Confirm picture, audio, and stream health, and verify that the correct event is receiving the signal.
Test a low-power PC before committing to an all-day broadcast
Run a private or unlisted test with the same loop, encoder settings, network, and peripherals you plan to use. Let it run long enough to reveal heat, resource, or connection problems; a brief preview does not establish that a machine will remain stable all day.
- Watch the encoder’s CPU or GPU load and temperature indicators, if available. If the picture stutters or encoding overload warnings appear, lower the resolution, frame rate, or encoder workload and test again.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health status, plus audio level and picture quality. Listen for muted, clipped, or looping audio.
- Confirm the video loops cleanly and that the stream continues after the source reaches its end.
- Test the full path from the actual broadcast location. YouTube advises testing upload bitrate; a shared connection may perform differently during the event.
- Test recovery procedures before the event, including what you will do if the encoder loses its connection. YouTube cautions that a connectivity disruption can break a stream.
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring audio and video, and testing failover.

Plan for power, internet interruptions, and the replay
Power and local network
The computer, router, and any required modem must stay on. A UPS sized for the combined load may bridge a brief local power interruption, but it cannot fix an ISP outage, a YouTube interruption, or a battery that runs out. Estimate runtime from the actual load and the manufacturer’s runtime information; YouTube does not specify a UPS size. An Ethernet cable can make the local connection more predictable than Wi-Fi, but it does not improve a weak or interrupted ISP connection.
Archive and DVR limitations
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. This is an archive and rewind caveat, not a stated maximum broadcast duration. If the replay matters, record locally and verify that the recording file is growing and plays correctly. YouTube’s archive guidance says, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.”

Ending and restarting in shorter segments can make each event easier to manage and archive, but each restart is a separate stream and can interrupt viewers or change the watch page. Choose that approach only if the break is acceptable for your audience.
