You can broadcast recorded Orthodox services continuously on YouTube by enabling live streaming for your channel, creating a live event in YouTube Studio, and sending YouTube a looping video feed from an encoder or cloud service. Before going live, confirm that you have rights to every recording and its music, test the stream, and plan for power, internet, and playback failures.
What a continuous stream requires
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder; it does not provide a church-specific recipe for repeating recorded services indefinitely. Your playback system must loop a service or playlist, while the encoder and its internet connection keep sending the feed. YouTube’s setup guidance covers the connection and stream settings, but the looping step depends on the playback system you choose. Test that system before scheduling a public broadcast. There are three practical operating models:
- Software encoder on a dedicated computer: flexible and may avoid dedicated encoder hardware, but the computer, playback software, power, and internet connection must remain available.
- Hardware encoder: a dedicated device can suit an installation with external video or audio equipment. YouTube supports hardware encoders, but no particular model is recommended here.
- Cloud service: can keep playback running without relying on a computer at the church. Check the service’s supported workflow and costs; cloud hosting does not remove the need to confirm content rights or monitor the YouTube broadcast.
YouTube’s verified encoder list includes products made by third parties, not by YouTube. Choose based on who will maintain the system, whether it can repeat your files, available audio/video inputs, recovery options, local recording needs, and ongoing costs. Check that the channel can go live
- Verify the channel and confirm live streaming is enabled in YouTube Studio.

Prepare the recorded services and confirm rights
Choose and check the source material
Select the service recording or playlist, then verify that the playback system can repeat it without an unintended pause or an abrupt change in sound or picture. Test the transitions between files and confirm that the audio remains audible throughout. The official YouTube encoder instructions explain how to send a feed; they do not prescribe a universal looping feature or application.

Clear every included work
Before broadcasting, confirm that the church or channel has the necessary rights for each recording and all material within it. That can include music, translations, readings, and other third-party content. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If a rights holder has licensed the material, ask whether it must also add the channel to its Content ID allowlist: YouTube says a license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted. Create the YouTube event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule the broadcast. Set the intended privacy and event details.
- Open the event’s stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder fields. YouTube provides both for connecting the encoder. YouTube encoder setup instructions
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not share it publicly or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set the event’s DVR, latency, auto-start, and auto-stop options to suit the broadcast. These are available stream settings; choose and test the behavior you actually need rather than assuming the defaults fit a continuous service stream. YouTube live encoder settings
- Configure the playback system to repeat the selected service or playlist, then start a private or unlisted test. Confirm that the YouTube preview receives both picture and sound before the public event begins.
Choose stream quality and network capacity
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings table for the resolution and frame rate you select rather than guessing a bitrate. For encoder configuration, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where supported. YouTube live encoder settings
Plan upload capacity for the total stream bitrate plus headroom. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth above the total bitrate. For example, if the configured stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, the recommended upload capacity is at least 6 Mbps; other household or church network use can require more. YouTube streaming tips

- Test with representative motion and the actual service audio; a static image or silent test may not reveal the problems that occur in the real playlist.
- Check the YouTube preview and the public watch page on a phone, including whether speech, chant, and music are clear at normal listening volume.
- Watch for dropped frames, buffering, audio clipping, unintended silence, and gaps at file transitions.
Plan for failures and long broadcasts
A continuous stream depends on the playback source, encoder, power, and network. Assign someone to check the stream and local recording, and decide how the service will be restarted if any part fails. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover and checking that a local archive file is growing; these precautions help identify problems but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not establish automatic archiving for broadcasts longer than 12 hours. Troubleshoot common problems
