Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Run FFmpeg on an always-on Linux host, loop a compatible video file, and send it to YouTube Live with stream copy (-c copy). This avoids decoding and re-encoding on your server; it does not prevent YouTube from transcoding the incoming stream for viewers. Use the RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room, then test the full setup privately before relying on it.
What “without transcoding” means
FFmpeg stream copy passes compressed audio and video packets to the output without decoding and re-encoding them. That is what -c copy requests. It also means FFmpeg cannot resize, filter, add overlays to, or otherwise alter the media. The source streams must be compatible with the output container and YouTube ingest. See the FFmpeg streamcopy documentation.
This is not a no-transcoding delivery path end to end: YouTube says it automatically creates multiple output formats from incoming live streams for viewers on different devices and networks. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. Copy the server URL and its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in a public script, repository, or screenshot, and reset it if it is exposed. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
-
Use the RTMPS endpoint shown in Live Control Room when possible. RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS/SSL, encrypting the encoder-to-ingest connection. Use the exact URL and port YouTube supplies; do not assume every account or endpoint uses the same URL form. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
Check the file before scheduling unattended playback
Confirm that the file contains the video and audio tracks you intend to send, and that their codecs can be muxed into the FLV output used in the example below. Stream copy cannot convert an incompatible codec or repair a media stream. If the file does not work with the selected output, choose a compatible source/output combination or relax the no-transcoding requirement.

Loop a compatible file with FFmpeg
With FFmpeg installed and the file available on the Linux host, set environment variables for the RTMPS base URL and key, then run:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i loop.mp4
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -c copy -f flv
"$YOUTUBE_RTMP_URL/$STREAM_KEY"
This illustrative command assumes loop.mp4 has compatible first video and audio streams, and that the variables contain the correct endpoint and key. -stream_loop -1 is an input option for infinite looping, so it appears before the relevant -i; -re reads the file at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible. FFmpeg documents the loop option in its option reference. The example is not a guarantee for every FFmpeg build, file, or YouTube endpoint.
Keep the key out of shell history and files readable by other users. In production, use your system’s secret-management approach or a restricted service environment rather than embedding the key in a shared command or script. Confirm the exact URL form in Live Control Room, then test with a private or unlisted stream.

Check YouTube ingest settings and stream health
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; CBR bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate: its H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 10 Mbps. Consult the live settings guidance for the profile matching your source rather than treating one bitrate as universal: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Monitor the live stream during operation. YouTube recommends testing under conditions representative of the real stream and checking stream health; a successful initial connection alone does not establish reliable unattended operation.
Keep the Linux relay running
Run FFmpeg in the foreground under a Linux service manager if the process should start with the host and restart after exiting. Configure logging and alerting for a prolonged loss of ingest, and inspect the manager’s logs when it restarts the process. A restart policy can respond to a process exit; it cannot fix an incompatible file, invalid key, network outage, or YouTube account restriction. The YouTube guidance recommends testing and monitoring but does not prescribe a guaranteed systemd unit or universal restart configuration.
Plan for the difference between a process restarting and an uninterrupted broadcast: reconnecting can create a visible interruption, and the official guidance does not establish a universal recipe or guarantee for continuous 24/7 sessions. Test your recovery behavior and decide how much interruption your use case can tolerate.

Plan for long-running sessions and archives
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee that a single encoder session can continue indefinitely or that a longer event will be archived. Check current Live Control Room status and account guidance before depending on unattended operation. Decide whether you need a persistent live watch page, periodic live sessions, or preserved VODs; these are different operational goals. See YouTube’s encoder-stream instructions.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect | Incorrect URL or port, invalid stream key, TLS support issue, or network interruption. | Copy the current endpoint and key from Live Control Room. For RTMPS, verify the URL scheme and supplied endpoint/port, and confirm the installed FFmpeg build supports the required TLS protocol. YouTube notes that specifying port 443 may help in some SSL-error cases; follow its RTMPS guidance. |
| Connection succeeds but YouTube reports an ingest or format problem | The source streams may not be compatible with the output muxer or YouTube’s supported ingest profile. | Inspect the source’s tracks and codecs, confirm the selected streams, and compare the ingest profile with YouTube’s current settings recommendations. Stream copy cannot transcode or alter the source to make it compatible. |
| Only video or only audio arrives | The file may lack the selected track, or the mapping may not match its streams. | Check that the file has both intended tracks and adjust -map selections to match. The example explicitly selects the first video and first audio stream. |
| The stream stops after a process or host failure | FFmpeg exited, the host or network went offline, or the ingest connection was dropped. | Inspect service-manager logs and host/network health. A restart policy can relaunch FFmpeg after process exit, but confirm that it reconnects successfully and monitor YouTube’s preview and health afterward. |
| There is no archived replay | The event may not meet YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition. | YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer continuous session will be archived. Check current account and Live Control Room guidance and make a separate recording plan if preserving a VOD matters. |
Copyright and channel-policy checks for a documentary stream
Only loop footage, music, narration, and other material you have the rights to use on YouTube Live. A file playing successfully through FFmpeg does not establish that its contents are authorized or that a live stream will avoid a copyright claim or restriction. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules before broadcasting, and do not treat continuous repetition as a substitute for permission.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a Linux host and FFmpeg process is not the goal, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a live camera. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
