Before you build the stream
Enable live streaming early
Check channel eligibility before planning a launch. YouTube’s general guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until launch day. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide explains the workflow and eligibility requirements.
Clear the footage and sound
Use underwater video and bubble audio you made yourself or have permission to use in a live stream. Keep records of licenses and their permitted uses. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can cause a placeholder to appear, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Licensed material can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve that with the rights holder before going live. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams describes these checks.
Make a continuity and archive plan
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the encoder, its connection, and the stream remaining healthy. Decide who will watch stream status and respond to interruptions. If preserving the program matters, plan a separate recording or archive process: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but its encoder instructions do not establish the same automatic archive behavior for streams longer than 12 hours. That limit does not mean longer streams are never archived; it means you should not rely on a complete YouTube archive for a continuous run. Set up a DIY encoder stream
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. A computer-based setup requires the computer and network connection to stay available while it encodes; a hardware encoder is a separate device, but its supported inputs, formats, reliability, remote monitoring, and total cost depend on the specific model. Confirm compatibility with the device maker and YouTube before buying. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a universal hardware requirement or a specific upload-bandwidth target.
- Prepare your program. Assemble the underwater footage and bubble sound into the video source you intend to stream. Confirm that the complete program is rights-cleared for this use, and keep documentation accessible.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in your software or hardware encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast. Follow the encoder’s current instructions for selecting the program source and starting transmission.
- Check the preview before confirming. Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview to appear in YouTube Studio. Check that the underwater picture and bubble audio are present, then confirm the broadcast in Studio.
- Monitor stream health. Watch for interruptions and dropped frames. OBS’s help portal explains dropped frames as a way to avoid buffering and keep a stream playing; persistent drops should be diagnosed rather than treated as normal. Check the connection and encoder status, and use the troubleshooting guidance for the encoder you chose. OBS Help.
- Protect the archive separately. If you need a retained copy of a 24/7 program, arrange a recording or archive plan outside the assumption that YouTube will save one complete long-running broadcast.
Keep monetization expectations realistic
A minimally changed loop is not a dependable monetization strategy. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its “repetitious content” policy was renamed “inauthentic content” and that highly repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible for monetization. YouTube also reviews reused content separately from copyright and permission: having rights to use footage does not itself establish eligibility for monetization. Make your original contribution and viewer value clear. Original underwater footage, distinct environments, deliberate sound design, or useful context can help communicate that contribution, but no particular addition guarantees approval.
