You can run a prerecorded 24/7 YouTube stream from a mini PC by using OBS Studio to loop a local video or playlist and send it to YouTube. The computer, OBS, internet connection and power must remain available; OBS’s automatic reconnect can help with a dropped connection, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. YouTube’s encoder recommendations and a few practical tests are more useful than choosing a mini PC by price alone: official guidance does not establish that any particular low-cost model can encode continuously.
What you need—and what “24/7” means
A mini PC acts as the local encoder: OBS reads your video or playlist and sends the live feed to YouTube. For a prerecorded channel, you do not need a camera, but the source files must be available to the PC for the duration of the stream.
- A mini PC capable of encoding your chosen resolution and frame rate continuously. No official OBS or YouTube source specifies a minimum mini PC configuration or validates a particular low-cost model.
- OBS Studio, a YouTube channel enabled for live streaming, and the channel’s stream key.
- A stable upload connection and power for the PC and network equipment.
- Local storage for your media; for a multi-file playlist in OBS, VLC is also required.
Keeping a channel live continuously is different from keeping a complete video archive. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not assume a 24-hour broadcast will become a complete replay.
Choose a mini PC by sustained capability, not just its price
No specific low-cost mini PC, India street price, power draw or all-day encoding capacity is established here, so treat model selection as a verification task rather than a recommendation. Before buying, check the exact model and configuration against the stream you intend to run.

- Processor and graphics: verify the exact CPU/iGPU generation and hardware codec support for your intended encoder settings.
- Memory and storage: allow room for OBS, the operating system and the video files or playlist.
- Cooling: look for evidence that the unit can dissipate heat under sustained load; a short demonstration is not proof of reliable continuous operation.
- Power draw: measure the actual unit in your intended streaming setup if you need to estimate electricity cost.
- Ports, warranty and local price: confirm these for the exact configuration and seller in India.
Do not infer a national electricity cost or broadband suitability from a quoted figure: neither a current India tariff nor local ISP stability data is established. Estimate running cost from measured PC and router consumption and your own electricity tariff; verify upload performance at the installation location.
Set up OBS and send a looped video to YouTube
- Install OBS and run its setup wizard. Install OBS Studio, open it and choose Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. Follow the prompts for streaming. OBS says the wizard considers intended use, computer hardware and network conditions; its result is a starting point, not proof that a mini PC is suitable for unattended 24/7 use.
- Add the prerecorded source. In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source. Select the video file and enable Loop. For several files, add a VLC Video Source, create the playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm the video fits the canvas as intended, then play it and check OBS’s audio meters. Make sure the scene contains the source you plan to broadcast.
- Connect OBS to your YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and retrieve its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it. Use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest option where available.
- Set output resolution, frame rate and bitrate. In OBS, open Settings > Video to set the output resolution and frame rate. In Settings > Output, configure the streaming encoder and bitrate. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval as the YouTube baseline, and select a bitrate appropriate to your codec and output settings (see the table below).
- Test before leaving it unattended. Start a short test stream with representative video and audio, inspect YouTube’s stream health, and confirm the picture and sound are correct. OBS recommends testing the selected scene and stream before launch; a short test can reveal basic issues but does not establish 24/7 reliability.
- Enable reconnect and start the broadcast. In OBS’s advanced settings, configure automatic reconnect. Start streaming in OBS and verify in YouTube Studio that the feed is healthy before relying on it.
YouTube encoder settings to use as a starting point
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1; up to 60 fps; CBR; a recommended two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds); and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transmission. The following H.264 figures are YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates on its current settings page, accessed in 2026—not guaranteed household upload speeds or universal requirements.

Run a speed test and judge stability under realistic network use, not only a best-case result. Leave headroom for other devices and traffic, and monitor stream health while testing with the kind of movement and audio your actual stream contains. A speed-test result cannot guarantee an uninterrupted connection.
Plan for failures, archives and viewer rewind
Reliability at home
For a local setup, the PC, OBS, network path and power all need to remain available. OBS automatic reconnect can help after a dropped connection; it is not a guarantee against a frozen PC, power interruption, ISP outage or YouTube-side issue. Ethernet or a UPS may be sensible depending on your wiring and outage pattern, but neither is established as mandatory, and no UPS size or runtime can be specified without measuring the load and deciding how long backup power should last.

Keeping a replay
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If a complete archive matters, keep a local recording as a backup and consider shorter broadcasts if your channel can accommodate them.
Viewer pause and rewind
YouTube’s DVR guidance says viewers may pause and resume during a live stream, but DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers a full-day rewind window.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube receives no video: confirm OBS is streaming, the correct scene is selected, the source is visible, and the stream key in Settings > Stream matches the active YouTube stream.
- The video stops at the end of the file: reopen the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video Source.
- A VLC playlist source is unavailable: install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS requires 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
- Video or audio stutters: test with a lower output resolution or frame rate, check encoder load and cooling, and retest upload stability. Do not assume the advertised processor capability proves sustained performance.
- Stream health reports connection trouble: test upload capacity under realistic conditions, reduce bitrate if it exceeds stable capacity, and check the local network path. Automatic reconnect may restore a dropped connection but cannot fix an ongoing outage.
- The broadcast is live but no complete replay appears: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording and shorter broadcasts if retaining a complete archive is important.
