You can present puppet stories on YouTube around the clock by streaming with an encoder, scheduling successive sessions, and planning handoffs before each session reaches 12 hours. YouTube does not guarantee one uninterrupted 24/7 stream, and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. Keep a separate local recording if the stories need to be preserved.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current getting-started guidance also requires streamers to be at least 16. YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance covers the requirements.
- A puppet stage or prepared story visuals, a camera if filming a live performance, and clear dialogue or narration audio.
- An encoder that can send the production to YouTube. YouTube describes encoders as useful for overlays and production hardware such as microphones, cameras and preamps, but says expensive equipment is not necessary to begin. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the workflow.
- Rights to everything in the program, including scripts, character artwork, puppet designs, performances, music and sound effects.
- A plan for session handoffs, monitoring and local recording.
How to set up the livestream
1. Build a production that can run reliably
Frame the puppet stage so the characters remain visible, and check that dialogue is intelligible above any music or effects. Add artwork, titles or other overlays only if they help viewers follow the story. A microphone can be useful for narration or dialogue; YouTube includes microphones among possible encoder production equipment, but does not require a particular microphone model.
Decide what viewers will see between stories and during session changes. A short title slate or a clear transition is better than an unexplained blank feed. If you are looping recorded episodes, arrange the playlist and transitions in advance, but do not let technical repetition replace distinct, original storytelling.
2. Schedule an event in YouTube Studio
Create or schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio and configure its title, visibility and other event details there. Scheduling can make an upcoming stream visible to subscribers and allow them to set a reminder. YouTube’s stream scheduling guidance describes this option.

3. Connect the encoder securely
- Open the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and find its stream settings.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder fields.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the event; do not publish it or include it in on-screen graphics.
- Start the encoder feed ahead of the planned public start so YouTube has time to receive and preview it.
Use YouTube’s encoder instructions alongside the labels shown in your current Studio and encoder interfaces; exact controls can vary by encoder.
4. Preview and test before going public
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound and the intended scene.
- Open the watch page and confirm that it is accessible with the visibility setting you intend; check mobile access as well.
- Listen for quiet, distorted or uneven dialogue and check that the picture remains framed as expected.
- Start the local recording and verify that its file is actually growing before relying on it.
- Leave time to correct errors before announcing or starting the public event.
YouTube recommends setting up encoder events ahead of time and checking the preview before going live. A successful preview confirms the feed is reaching YouTube; it does not guarantee that a long-running broadcast will remain uninterrupted.

Plan 24/7 coverage as successive sessions
A 24/7 presentation is an operating schedule, not a promise that YouTube will preserve one endlessly continuous stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is a platform archive threshold, not an uptime guarantee. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
Plan sessions that end comfortably before the 12-hour threshold rather than trying to land exactly on it. Leave time for a slate or story transition, stop the current session, and begin the next scheduled or connected session. YouTube does not guarantee an automatic restart or uninterrupted handoff, so monitor the transition and be ready to intervene. Keep the local recording separate from YouTube’s archive.

There is a practical trade-off: one very long session means fewer handoffs, but risks losing the automatic archive if it runs over the platform’s threshold. Shorter sessions create more handoffs to schedule and monitor, but make it easier to preserve separate segments. A continuous viewer experience across those segments still depends on the actual transition, not simply on the schedule.
Protect originality and clear the rights
YouTube’s livestream terms say, “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” The provider also represents that it has the rights needed to exploit the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. For a puppet-story channel, check the rights to scripts, character art, puppet designs, recorded performances, music and sound effects before putting them in a live program. The terms specifically discuss music; checking the other creative elements is a practical way to meet the broader rights obligation. Do not assume a popular song is permitted just because it is playing in a livestream.
Rights clearance and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube says monetized content should be original and “authentic”; repetitive, generic or mass-produced output can undermine eligibility. Its channel-level review may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time distribution and metadata. A recurring schedule can feature original episodes, but a low-effort duplicate loop can create policy risk. This is not a prediction of how YouTube will decide an individual channel’s review. What happens to the recording and monetization?
Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a single 24-hour stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; longer streams may not be captured at all. Use shorter sessions and a separate local recording when preserving the stories matters. An archive and a local file are different safeguards: the former depends on YouTube’s handling of the stream, while the latter depends on your recording setup and storage.
Can a 24/7 stream earn money?
For channels that meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements and have the relevant settings enabled, ads, Super Chat or Super Stickers, and memberships may be available. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed. A 24/7 schedule by itself does not guarantee monetization or income; eligibility, policy compliance and viewer participation remain relevant.
