Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo keep local videos in a fixed order on a continuous YouTube Live stream, put their filenames in the intended sequence in an FFmpeg concat-demuxer list, then loop that list as the input. This works best when every file has matching streams, codecs and time bases. If they differ, normalize them first or use FFmpeg’s concat filter to decode and re-encode the sequence.
1. Put the videos in the order you want them to play
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text file whose file entries define playback order. Create a file such as playlist.txt:
file 'intro.mp4'
file 'chapter-01.mp4'
file 'chapter-02.mp4'
file 'outro.mp4'
Use paths relative to the directory where FFmpeg runs, or provide absolute paths. Check the text file itself if playback order is wrong. Do not rely on a shell wildcard unless you have verified its expansion order: it may not match the sequence you intended. For filenames containing quotes or other special characters, follow the escaping rules in the FFmpeg formats documentation.
2. Make sure the files are compatible
The concat demuxer is not a general-purpose solution for joining arbitrary media. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation requires the files to have the same streams, codecs and time bases. Mismatches can cause boundary errors, stalls or other unexpected behavior even if the list order is correct.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
When the files already match
Use the demuxer if the videos have compatible stream layouts and timing properties. Verify the result with a test before relying on it for a long stream; correct list order alone does not guarantee clean transitions.
When they differ
Either convert the source videos ahead of time so they share a common profile, then use the demuxer, or use FFmpeg’s concat filter to concatenate decoded streams and re-encode. FFmpeg’s FAQ identifies the concat filter as the route for re-encoding workflows. Normalizing in advance takes preparation and storage for intermediate files; re-encoding takes compute and requires an output-quality decision. The right filter graph and settings depend on the actual files, so there is no universal command that safely fits every mixed playlist.

3. Loop the list and send it to YouTube
For a playlist that has already been normalized, this is an illustrative command shape, not a tested or guaranteed recipe. Replace the example video bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate, and use the RTMPS server address and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv "rtmps://SERVER/APP/STREAM_KEY"
-rereads the input at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely. Because it is an input option, it belongs before-i playlist.txt.-f concatselects the concat demuxer;-safe 0permits paths outside the demuxer’s restricted safe-path form. Use trusted playlist entries.-c:v, bitrate and GOP options configure the video output;-c:aand-b:aconfigure audio;-f flvselects the output container used here for RTMP(S) ingestion.
FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output they precede, so keep input options before the playlist input and output encoding and muxing options before the destination URL. See the FFmpeg documentation for option scope and ordering.

Set bitrate and keyframes for the output
The command’s 4500k video bitrate is only an example; do not treat it as a universal YouTube setting. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution and frame rate. On the English help page accessed October 3, 2026, YouTube listed 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/30 fps and 17 Mbps at 1080p/60 fps. Check the current table for your intended output rather than copying either value to a different format. Ensure your available upload rate can sustain the selected output.
YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. At 30 fps, -g 60 represents a two-second GOP; recalculate the GOP size if your output frame rate changes. The command also uses CBR-style bitrate controls and AAC audio. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists CBR and AAC or MP3 audio among its RTMP/RTMPS settings.

Keep the stream key private
Use the destination server URL and stream key provided by YouTube Live Control Room. Do not publish a real key in an article, screenshot, command history or public log. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream in transit; see its RTMPS guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.4. Test the sequence and monitor the live output
- Run a private or otherwise safe test using representative clips, including motion and audio. YouTube recommends testing with both rather than judging a static frame.
- Check the Live Control Room’s stream health and messages while the test is running.
- Confirm that the actual output codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval and audio codec match the current YouTube recommendations for your chosen format.
- Let the test cross a file boundary and confirm that the next clip starts as expected before depending on the playlist for an extended stream.
5. Troubleshoot order, transitions and ingestion
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Videos play in an unexpected order | The entries in playlist.txt, or an assumed wildcard sort order |
Inspect the actual list and write entries in the intended sequence. |
| Playback stalls or breaks between files | Stream layouts, codecs, time bases, timing metadata, audio layout and file durations | Confirm demuxer compatibility; normalize the files or use a concat-filter workflow that re-encodes. |
| YouTube reports poor stream health or rejects the feed | Output codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, bitrate, audio settings and upload capacity | Compare the actual encoder output with YouTube’s current settings for that resolution and frame rate, then test again. |
| The loop or other options seem ineffective | Whether input options were placed before the playlist input and output options before the destination | Recheck FFmpeg option ordering and scope in the command. |
Boundary behavior can also depend on timestamps and duration metadata. Correct sequence order does not by itself make transitions seamless, and a boundary problem is not necessarily a YouTube ingestion problem.
6. Choose a workflow for mixed source files
| Approach | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Normalize sources, then use the concat demuxer | Files can be converted ahead of time to matching stream properties | Requires preparation and storage for normalized intermediates. |
| Use the concat filter and re-encode | Files differ and need decoded processing as part of concatenation | Requires batch or live compute and an encoding-quality choice. |
The demuxer requirements are documented in the FFmpeg formats documentation; the method distinction is described in the FFmpeg FAQ. Decide based on how different the sources are, the machine’s capacity, quality needs and whether conversion can happen before the stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel playing uploaded videos without maintaining an FFmpeg process on a local computer, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
