You can run a 24/7 YouTube gaming stream by sending prerecorded gameplay videos through an encoder, either on a computer you keep running or through a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. Before you start, make sure your channel is eligible for live streaming, configure the stream in YouTube Live Control Room, protect your stream key, and test the video and audio.
Choose where the playlist will run
YouTube supports encoder streaming for gameplay and more advanced productions. An encoder may be software on a computer or standalone hardware; YouTube defines it this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.)
For a playlist of existing gameplay recordings, the practical choice is where continuous playback and encoding happen:
- Local setup: Run encoder software on a computer. The computer and its internet connection need to remain available while it streams. YouTube does not prescribe a particular PC, graphics card, capture card, or playlist application for this prerecorded-video workflow.
- Cloud service: Upload videos to a service that plays them continuously and sends the stream to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. A listing is not an endorsement; check each provider’s current features and terms.
If you are capturing gameplay as it happens from a console, that is a different source setup from streaming existing video files. This guide covers a playlist of prerecorded gameplay.

Check channel eligibility first
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days to live stream. Check the channel’s status before preparing a continuous broadcast. See YouTube live streaming tips.
Set up the stream in YouTube
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Choose your encoder workflow. For a local setup, configure compatible encoder software on the computer that will run the playlist. For a cloud setup, follow the provider’s instructions for connecting the YouTube stream.
- Enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder or service. YouTube’s stream settings explain these values and the available auto-start and auto-stop options: Manage live stream settings.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as working like a password and an address for the stream. Treat it as a credential: do not share it publicly, and replace it if you believe someone else has access.
- Review auto-start and auto-stop settings. These are available controls, not a guarantee that a stream will restart or recover after every interruption.
Prepare and test the playlist
Before relying on an all-day or overnight broadcast, confirm that the selected videos play in the intended order and that their audio is audible and consistent. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, checking the Live Control Room preview before going live, and monitoring stream audio and video quality. Follow its live streaming tips.

Check that you have the rights needed to stream the gameplay footage, music, and other material in every video. A playlist being prerecorded does not make its contents exempt from YouTube’s copyright rules. Also consider whether the channel’s use of repeated or reused footage complies with YouTube policies relevant to monetization; streaming continuously does not itself establish eligibility.
Plan for upload bandwidth and reliability
YouTube recommends having 20% more upload bandwidth than the total stream bitrate. For example, if the encoder sends a stream at a total bitrate of 10 Mbps, the guideline implies at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity. The appropriate bitrate depends on the encoder output and stream settings; there is no single bitrate established for every prerecorded gaming playlist. Check the encoder’s actual output and leave the recommended headroom on the connection being used. A local stream also depends on the computer staying powered, the encoder continuing to run, and the local connection remaining available.
Troubleshoot common interruptions
- The stream will not start: Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check that the selected Live Control Room stream, stream URL, and stream key match the encoder configuration.
- The preview is missing or wrong: Confirm the playlist is playing in the encoder or cloud service and that the correct stream is selected in Live Control Room. Check the preview before starting the broadcast.
- Viewers report buffering or disconnections: Check available upload bandwidth against the stream’s total bitrate, including YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Investigate connection interruptions as well as encoder output.
- Audio or video quality changes: Monitor the live output and verify the source files and encoder settings. YouTube recommends ongoing monitoring rather than assuming a successful initial preview guarantees a stable stream.
- The stream stops while unattended: Auto-start and auto-stop settings may help manage stream behavior, but they do not prove recovery from every failure. Determine whether the issue came from the local computer, network, encoder, or cloud provider, and check that provider’s current recovery behavior before depending on it.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Treat it as compromised and update or replace it using YouTube’s stream settings, then update the encoder or service using the new key.
