You can run a 24/7 relaxation stream from a Windows laptop by sending a video-and-audio feed to YouTube through an encoder such as OBS Studio. YouTube hosts the live broadcast, but your laptop, encoder, power and internet connection must keep working continuously. First check that your channel can livestream; then prepare content you have rights to use, configure the stream in YouTube Studio and test it before going public.
Before you set up the stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Its getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. If this is the first time you have enabled live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until broadcast day. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- Confirm channel access: Sign in to YouTube Studio and check that Live is available for your channel.
- Prepare rights-cleared material: Use visuals and ambient audio you created or are licensed to broadcast on YouTube. Keep permission and license records. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel needs to be allowlisted.
- Plan for interruptions: A laptop stream depends on local power and internet. Decide how you will respond if either fails, and keep a separate local recording if you need a reliable copy of the programme.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and can interrupt or terminate a broadcast. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the rights holder’s Content ID system has not allowlisted your channel. Review YouTube’s copyright information and the YouTube Terms of Service before going live.
Create a live stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live to open the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream and enter its title, description, audience setting and visibility. Select the appropriate audience classification; do not mark a relaxation stream as made for children unless it is actually directed to children.
- Choose the encoder workflow. In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- In your Windows encoder, select a custom streaming server if needed, paste the stream URL into the server field and the key into the stream-key field, then save the configuration. Exact menu names differ by encoder and version.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming signal and preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound and stream health before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.

Choose resolution and encoder settings for your connection
There is no universally correct resolution or bitrate for an unspecified laptop and internet plan. Measure your upload speed, not just download speed, and choose a setting your connection can sustain steadily. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; that allowance helps absorb normal variation rather than guaranteeing uninterrupted service. Use Ethernet where practical, and monitor stream health during a test.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Its current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS and publishes bitrate ranges by resolution, codec and frame rate. Select a combination from YouTube’s table that suits both your footage and measured upload capacity rather than choosing the highest setting by default. - Resolution and frame rate: A static scene or slow-moving ambient visuals may not benefit from a higher frame rate. Lower resolution or frame rate can reduce the required bitrate.
- Video bitrate: Keep it within YouTube’s published range for the selected codec, resolution and frame rate. Leave the recommended connection headroom above the encoder’s bitrate.
- Rate control: Use CBR as YouTube recommends for a stable feed.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds.
- Audio: Select a supported audio codec and bitrate in the encoder. Check that ambient audio is neither clipped nor inaudibly quiet in the Studio preview.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS when the encoder offers it.
Run a private or unlisted test first. Watch the preview and stream-health indicators while the encoder is sending data. If the connection reports instability, reduce bitrate or resolution and test again; an internet speed-test result is only a snapshot, not a promise of continuous performance. YouTube explains that disruptions can break a stream in its encoder recommendations and recommends a reliable connection with bandwidth headroom in its streaming guidance.
Keep a Windows laptop running continuously
With the do-it-yourself approach, the laptop is the encoder and the source of the live feed. If it sleeps, loses power, reboots, the encoder crashes or the internet drops, YouTube may stop receiving the stream. Keep the machine connected to power, prevent sleep during the broadcast using Windows power settings, and test the setup for a meaningful period before relying on it. Windows menu names vary by version; verify the setting on the laptop you will use.

A wired network connection can reduce dependence on Wi-Fi, but it cannot prevent an ISP outage or power failure. Have a recovery plan: check whether the encoder is still running, restore the connection or restart the encoder, and confirm the incoming signal in Live Control Room. YouTube warns that connection problems can interrupt a broadcast; the platform documentation does not establish a particular Windows power configuration or India-specific backup-power requirement.
Understand what happens to a 24-hour broadcast and its replay
Do not assume a continuous 24-hour stream will produce a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR guidance also says rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Copyright and monetization are separate checks
Clear every element of the programme
Rights need to cover the way you plan to use each visual and sound recording, including livestreaming on YouTube. Do not assume that material labelled royalty-free, purchased, or available online is automatically cleared for this use; check the applicable licence and keep documentation. If you use licensed music subject to Content ID, confirm that the rights holder has allowlisted your channel where required. YouTube may still interrupt a stream if its systems identify third-party content.
A relaxation loop is not guaranteed to qualify for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and expect original, authentic content. Repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible, so a static relaxation loop is not guaranteed to pass monetization review. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a plan around advertising revenue.

Troubleshoot common failures
