You can run a prerecorded nature video as a continuous YouTube livestream without OBS by using another encoder on a spare computer. The computer still has to play the video, encode the signal and upload it; it must stay powered on, awake and connected to the internet. For a prerecorded loop that should keep running while your computer is off, a hosted cloud playlist is an alternative.
What a non-OBS 24/7 stream requires
“Without OBS” means replacing OBS with another encoder, not removing the work OBS would have done. Your local setup needs to:
- Read the nature video or playlist.
- Encode the video and audio in a format accepted by YouTube.
- Send the live feed to YouTube over a stable internet connection.
Choose an encoder that supports your source and YouTube livestreaming. The exact configuration depends on that encoder and YouTube’s current technical recommendations; no specific non-OBS command, bitrate or preset is established here, so do not copy settings from an unrelated encoder or assume one configuration suits every source.
Set up the stream in YouTube and your encoder
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance for current requirements.
- Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and use the stream’s encoder workflow. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Configure your non-OBS encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key, then select your video source and the encoder’s appropriate output settings. The required values and controls vary by encoder; follow its documentation alongside YouTube’s current technical guidance.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Confirm that the picture and audio appear in the Live Control Room before you start or share the broadcast.
- Keep the computer running. Prevent sleep, connect reliable power and internet, and check the stream from another device after launch. For a long unattended run, unexpected restarts, power loss or a home-network interruption can stop delivery.
YouTube describes the stream key as the credential used by the encoder to send the feed. Keep it private; reset it in YouTube if you think someone else has obtained it.

Choose between a spare computer and a cloud loop

Protect the content and plan for YouTube’s limits
Rights apply to video, sound and archives
You need the rights required to livestream your footage and audio, including music, and to retain or share any resulting archive. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that You have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Nature footage or ambient sound is not automatically cleared just because it is used as background.
Do not count on a complete 24-hour replay
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, make a separate recording or plan shorter segments, and check YouTube’s current archive guidance. Do not promise viewers that a full 24/7 broadcast will be available afterward.

Runtime alone does not make a channel monetizable
YouTube’s channel monetization policies say that repetitive or mass-produced material can fall under “inauthentic content” and be ineligible for monetization; the policy also applies to livestreams. A continuous loop is not automatically eligible. Make the channel’s work original and useful rather than relying on uninterrupted runtime as a qualification.
Troubleshoot a stream that stops or never appears
- No preview in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is running, that it has the correct server URL and stream key, and that the selected source is playing.
- The stream key may be wrong or exposed: Compare the encoder entry with the key for the selected YouTube stream. If the key may have been shared or compromised, reset it and update the encoder.
- The broadcast stops after running unattended: Check whether the computer slept, restarted, lost power or lost its network connection. Adjust its power settings and verify the connection; a UPS for the computer and router may help with some power interruptions, but runtime depends on the equipment and battery capacity.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream exceeding YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold may not be captured. Use separate recording or shorter segments if keeping the footage is important.
- A loop raises a monetization concern: Review the channel policy and assess whether the content is repetitive or mass-produced. Being live for longer does not resolve an inauthentic-content issue.
