You can use Amazon EC2 to host a program that plays a prepared, rights-cleared music playlist and sends it continuously to YouTube—but EC2 is only the server for the process. You must configure an encoder and YouTube ingest, keep the process monitored and recoverable, and clear both the sound recordings and compositions for the intended use. AWS’s documented 24/7 channel patterns describe a media workflow, not a one-click EC2 setup.
What a 24/7 YouTube music channel needs
A prerecorded music livestream has two separate jobs: produce and send a valid live stream, and ensure every track is authorized for that use. EC2 can host a continuously running playback-and-encoding process. It does not, by itself, provide a finished broadcast service or settle music rights.
At a high level, the server plays a prepared audio/visual program, encodes it, and sends the output to YouTube using an ingest method YouTube currently supports for the channel. AWS documents the general concept of a continuously encoded live channel, but the AWS material available here does not provide a current, tested step-by-step recipe for running a playlist process on EC2. See AWS Elemental MediaLive documentation for the managed encoding service and AWS’s live streaming on AWS overview for the broader architecture.
Choose the architecture before configuring a server
EC2-hosted playback and encoding
In an EC2 approach, you are responsible for the playback process, encoder configuration, YouTube connection, monitoring, and restart or reconnect behavior. EC2 can run a process continuously, but a virtual machine alone should not be treated as a managed packaging or viewer-delivery system. The reviewed AWS documentation does not establish a particular EC2 playlist application, configuration, or total operating cost for this use.

AWS managed live-media pipeline
AWS describes a more complete broadcast-oriented pattern in which MediaLive ingests and encodes, MediaPackage packages outputs, and CloudFront distributes them to viewers. Its guidance discusses parallel feeds and multiple output formats for resilience and device delivery. That pipeline serves a different role from a single encoder sending a music program to YouTube, and may be more operationally elaborate than a simple channel needs. Component roles are described in the AWS live streaming solution overview.
Do not treat an older HLS example as a universal preset
AWS published a YouTube HLS integration example in 2021 for a 4K/HDR context. It names HLS ingest, a YouTube stream key, two-second segments, H.265 video, and AAC audio. Those are details of that example, not proof of minimum or current settings for an audio-focused stream. Check YouTube’s current ingest options and the requirements shown for your channel before choosing an encoder or format. The example is at AWS’s 4K/HDR YouTube streaming article.

Plan and launch an EC2-hosted stream
The following is an operational outline, not a copy-and-run AWS deployment recipe: the reviewed documentation does not specify a current EC2 playlist process or a complete set of encoder values for this scenario.
- Prepare the program. Build the playlist from recordings and compositions cleared for livestream use on YouTube in the territories you intend to reach. Prepare the visual element as well, such as artwork or a program slate, and confirm that you have rights for every component you use.
- Create and secure the server. Select an AWS region and EC2 configuration appropriate to the playback and encoding workload you choose. Restrict administrative access, keep credentials private, and plan how the process will start after a reboot. The sources cited here do not establish a suitable instance size or a channel-specific monthly cost.
- Install and configure a playback-and-encoding process. Choose software that can play the prepared program continuously and encode to an ingest method currently supported by YouTube. Set the output based on YouTube’s current guidance and the needs of the program; do not copy the 2021 4K/HDR example’s values automatically for a static-image music channel.
- Set up YouTube ingest. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, obtain the stream key and configure the encoder to send to the ingest destination and format currently shown for the channel. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send to your stream. AWS’s cited HLS example uses a YouTube stream key, but its specific HLS configuration is not a universal recipe.
- Start a private test and monitor it. Confirm that YouTube receives the encoder output and that audio and video behave as intended before making the stream public. Watch the encoder process and YouTube Live Control Room. Arrange a restart or reconnect procedure for a process failure or dropped connection; this is an operational recommendation, not an uptime guarantee.
- Decide whether to archive. If you enable archiving, account for YouTube’s post-stream Content ID claims on completed archived live streams. Archiving does not remove live scanning or its interruption risk.
Clear Indian music before going live
A song file, purchase, or subscription does not by itself establish permission to livestream the music on YouTube. For each track, identify and confirm the permissions for both the sound recording and the underlying composition, for the platform use and territories you plan. Keep written records of permissions. The sources cited here do not establish a general licensing route in India or identify who controls the rights to any particular song, so verify the relevant rights holders and terms directly.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. A match may cause a placeholder to appear; if the matched content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube’s guidance states: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams. A license therefore may not, by itself, prevent a live interruption; where applicable, request that the relevant Content ID owner allowlist your channel.
If a completed live stream is archived, YouTube says Content ID claims are made after the stream ends. Consider how you will review and handle claims on an archive. Turning archiving off should not be treated as a way to avoid live matching: YouTube says all live streams are scanned. See YouTube Help: Manage your live stream archives.

India-specific bandwidth context
The National Informatics Centre’s webcast guidance for hired-agency feeds lists an encoder, outbound RTMP port 1935, and dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream. This is scoped to the NIC’s webcast service for central and state government institutions; it is not a YouTube bitrate requirement or an EC2 specification. See the NIC webcast service page.
Monitoring and troubleshooting
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the encoder is running, its destination and ingest format match the current YouTube setup, and the stream key is correct. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The stream stops after a server or process interruption: Check EC2 and encoder status, then restart or reconnect the playback-and-encoding process. Configure and test startup and recovery behavior rather than assuming a continuous process cannot fail.
- YouTube replaces the picture or interrupts the stream: Review live-stream warnings and identify the matched material. Confirm that permissions cover the use and, when the rights owner uses Content ID, ask about channel allowlisting.
- A claim appears on an archived stream: Review the claim and the permissions you hold for the recording and composition. YouTube says archived-stream claims are made after the live stream completes.
- Viewers report poor playback: Check the encoder output and the viewer experience, then adjust settings based on YouTube’s current ingest guidance and the program’s requirements. The cited AWS 4K/HDR example should not be assumed to be the right configuration for a music stream.
Costs and operating responsibility
There is no defensible single EC2 monthly price for this channel from the available AWS references. Cost depends on region, instance choice, continuous runtime, bitrate, viewer delivery and data transfer, and whether you add managed media services. A MediaLive–MediaPackage–CloudFront design has different components and cost drivers from a single EC2-hosted encoder. Price the actual design and expected delivery before launch; do not treat an EC2 compute estimate as the full cost of serving viewers.
