The playout system controls the episode rotation; YouTube receives the feed. You can usually change the order without ending the viewer-facing broadcast.
Before you start: clear the episodes and check channel readiness
Confirm streaming rights
Use episodes your channel owns or is explicitly permitted to broadcast. Check that permission covers public live streaming, not just uploading or private use. Review music, clips, and other material embedded in each episode too; permission for the cartoon itself may not cover those elements.
Enable live streaming in advance
YouTube Help says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Confirm that your channel can go live before announcing a launch, and leave time to test the encoder and playlist.
Choose how to play the rotation
The key choice is where the files play from. The rotation belongs to that playout system, which sends YouTube one audiovisual feed.

YouTube’s verified encoder list includes Gyre, described as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video service, and Upstream, described as a browser-based 24/7 live-streaming studio. Those descriptions alone do not establish their current prices or exact playlist features; confirm details with each provider.
Set up YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Prepare the files. Put compatible episode files in a clearly named folder or upload them to the chosen service. Check playback and the intended order before going live.
- Create or schedule the live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube supports scheduling, and viewers can opt into a reminder for an upcoming scheduled stream.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder or service’s YouTube connection settings. The key is a credential that lets the encoder send the feed. Keep it private; reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Set viewing and lifecycle behavior. Decide whether to enable DVR, which lets viewers pause and rewind, and whether encoder-controlled auto-start or auto-stop should govern the stream. Test the selected behavior before promoting a continuous channel.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s incoming feed. Verify that the feed reaches YouTube and that the broadcast is live before relying on the rotation.
Configure and change the episode rotation
Build the sequence in the playout system
Arrange episodes in the desired order in the encoder or service. Choose whether the same playlist repeats, blocks alternate, or short interstitials separate episodes. These are programming decisions managed by the playout system, not YouTube rotation controls.

Keep one continuous broadcast, if that is the goal
YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the incoming stream feed. A broadcast is the live event or video page; a stream is the audiovisual feed sent to YouTube. YouTube’s API documentation describes reusing a stream for broadcasts at different times and keeping one 24/7 broadcast live while a second broadcast represents a subset of the same continuing feed. For a single continuous cartoon channel, the episode changes in the feed while the broadcast can stay live. If you want a separate watch page or scheduled event for each episode, that is a different broadcast design; the episode schedule still belongs to your encoder or service. Test transitions before launch
Run through at least one episode boundary and confirm the next file starts as intended. Check that the stream stays healthy and that a playlist edit does not inadvertently stop the feed. Avoid ending the continuous broadcast just to change the file order unless your chosen playout system requires it.

Monitor the live channel and troubleshoot interruptions
- YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were entered correctly. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder with the new key.
- The wrong episode plays next: Inspect the playlist order and repeat or block settings in the playout system; YouTube does not manage episode rotation.
- The feed stops after an episode: Check whether the playlist is configured to repeat and whether the encoder treats the end of a file as the end of the stream. Test the full transition and review the service’s recovery and lifecycle settings.
- The computer or connection drops: A local workflow depends on the computer, storage, and network staying available. Check the encoder’s restart process and monitor the incoming stream after recovery.
- YouTube shows an interruption: Check stream health and the encoder’s connection, then confirm the broadcast remains live. Do not assume a feed interruption will recover perfectly without monitoring.
- Viewers cannot rewind: Check whether DVR is enabled for the broadcast; DVR is the setting that lets viewers pause and rewind.
