To keep your selections, save them as a playlist before the outage; when power and internet are back, reopen YouTube and start the playlist again. Autoplay can move to a related video when one ends, but it is not a power-loss recovery feature.
What YouTube does—and does not—resume
YouTube’s Autoplay guidance describes playing another related video after the current one ends. It does not describe restoring playback after power is lost. Autoplay settings can also differ by device.
YouTube’s computer queue guidance says, “Your queue won’t save after you’ve closed your browser.” A saved playlist is the safer way to retain the video selection. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance advises returning to the app and trying to play the video again after restarting a device; it does not promise to restore the previous timestamp or exact playlist position.
Save the podcast videos so you can replay them
- Save the videos to a playlist. If you have built a temporary queue in a computer browser, save its videos to a named playlist before closing the browser or ending the session. A queue alone is not a saved playlist.
- Turn on Autoplay only if you want it. Use the YouTube Autoplay control on the device where you watch if you want another related video to start after the current one ends. This helps with playback transitions, not recovery after an outage.
- After power returns, restore connectivity. Turn on the streaming device or computer, and confirm the router or modem has internet access.
- Open YouTube and start the saved playlist. Find the playlist and play it again. If you were watching a single video, reopen it and try playing it. Check the current video and position yourself; do not assume YouTube has returned to the previous timestamp.
Prevent interruptions during short outages with a UPS
If your goal is to keep playback going through a brief outage, a UPS can supply battery power to connected equipment such as a router, modem, computer, or television. APC’s UPS buying guide explains that a UPS provides battery backup when power is interrupted, but runtime depends on the connected load and available battery capacity.

Choose a unit rated for the equipment you intend to keep running, and check its expected runtime at that load. A UPS has finite battery life: it may bridge a short outage, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted playback through a long one. It also does not make YouTube restore a playlist or playback position if the stream stops.
What about YouTube Music’s connected-device queue?
YouTube Music documents a Continue Listening on Connected Devices feature for carrying active queues across connected devices. Its guidance concerns switching devices, not recovering playback after a power outage, and it should not be treated as a general YouTube playlist-resume guarantee.
