How to Restart a YouTube Lofi Stream Automatically After a Crash

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To bring a YouTube lofi stream back after an interruption, set up three separate recovery layers: OBS automatic reconnect for a dropped connection, an operating-system process supervisor to relaunch OBS if it exits, and YouTube Live Control Room auto-start so the broadcast can begin when the encoder sends video. YouTube auto-start does not restart OBS, and OBS reconnect cannot help once OBS has crashed.

Identify which part failed

“The stream stopped” can describe different failures, and each needs its own recovery mechanism. A useful diagnosis is whether OBS is still running, whether it is sending video, and whether YouTube has started the broadcast.

Failure What you may observe Recovery layer
Network or output connection interruption OBS remains open, but its stream output disconnects or drops. OBS automatic reconnect can retry a supported output while OBS is running.
OBS exits or crashes The OBS process is no longer running. An operating-system process supervisor must launch OBS again.
Encoder is sending video, but the broadcast is not live OBS is active and sending a feed, but YouTube has not started the broadcast. YouTube Live Control Room auto-start controls whether the broadcast starts when encoder video begins.

These layers are complementary, not interchangeable. If the host computer itself loses power or reboots, OBS also needs to be configured to start again in the correct user session after the machine comes back.

Configure YouTube’s stream and broadcast settings

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Select the intended stream and confirm that it is bound to the stream key you plan to use in OBS.
  2. Check auto-start. Enable it if you want YouTube to start the broadcast when video arrives from the encoder. This setting controls broadcast behavior; it does not launch OBS or recover a crashed process.
  3. Protect the stream key. YouTube describes the key as credential and destination information that lets an encoder send the feed. Keep it private. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS with the current key.
  4. Verify reused streams. If you reuse a YouTube stream, check auto-start and auto-stop instead of assuming they match your intended setup. YouTube carries these selections along with the stream’s metadata, settings, and key.

Enable OBS automatic reconnect

  1. Open OBS’s settings for the streaming output. Confirm that automatic reconnect is enabled for the output you use. The precise interface can vary by OBS version and output configuration.
  2. Understand what it retries. OBS reconnect is for a supported output connection interruption while the OBS process remains active. It cannot relaunch OBS after the application terminates.
  3. Do not assume retries are instant. OBS documentation says retry intervals double on each retry. Allow for increasing delays when judging whether it is still attempting to reconnect.
  4. Test with the real configuration. Confirm that OBS can reconnect to the intended YouTube stream and that YouTube behaves as expected when video resumes.

Add a process supervisor for an OBS crash

A supervisor watches for the OBS process to exit and starts it again. The exact configuration depends on whether the host uses Windows, macOS, or Linux, and whether OBS needs an interactive desktop session. There is no single platform-neutral command or setting established for every deployment.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Configure the supervisor to relaunch OBS after an unexpected exit, rather than only after a deliberate shutdown.
  • Make sure it launches OBS as the intended user and in the correct desktop session. OBS may need that session to access the expected scenes, sources, and configuration.
  • Check duplicate-instance behavior so a supervisor does not start another OBS instance while the original is still running.
  • Confirm that the correct scene collection and stream configuration load after relaunch.
  • If recovery after a host reboot matters, configure and test startup for the host as well as restart behavior for OBS.

Because the operating system and session model determine the implementation, choose supervisor instructions for the specific host rather than copying a command intended for a different platform.

Test the complete recovery path

  1. With the intended YouTube stream selected, verify its current stream key and auto-start state in Live Control Room.
  2. Start OBS and confirm that it is sending the expected lofi video and audio.
  3. Test an output interruption and confirm that OBS attempts to reconnect while the process remains open.
  4. Test an OBS exit and confirm that the supervisor relaunches it in the right user and desktop session with the intended scene collection.
  5. Confirm that YouTube receives the resumed feed and starts the broadcast as expected.
  6. If unattended operation must also survive a machine reboot, test that separate recovery path before relying on it.

Run these checks on the actual channel and configuration you plan to use. A recovery setup is only useful if the process starts in the right session, the encoder has valid settings, and YouTube receives the feed.

Troubleshoot the common failure modes

  • OBS is closed and nothing brings it back: OBS reconnect only retries a supported output while OBS is running. Configure an OS-level supervisor to relaunch the process.
  • OBS restarted, but YouTube receives no feed: Check whether the stream key in OBS matches the current key in Live Control Room, update it if needed, and start the encoder again.
  • OBS is running but disconnects keep recurring: Investigate the network path. OBS lists server selection, bitrate, security software, VPNs, network devices, and the ISP among possible factors. Change one relevant factor at a time and check whether the interruptions stop.
  • The feed resumes but the broadcast does not go live: Check auto-start on the selected YouTube stream. It governs broadcast activation when encoder video begins; it does not control whether OBS itself is running.
  • A repeated stream behaves differently than expected: Recheck auto-start and auto-stop on the reused stream, since those selections can carry over with its other settings.
  • The supervisor starts OBS, but it loads the wrong setup: Check the configured user, desktop session, scene collection, and stream configuration. Also check whether another OBS instance is already running.

Keep the lofi stream safe to run continuously

Automation can restart an encoder, but it does not grant rights to the music or visuals in a lofi stream. Before leaving a stream unattended, confirm that you have the necessary rights for every recording and visual you use, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel. Do not assume that looping, editing, or labeling material as lofi makes it authorized or eligible for monetization.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is an alternative to managing an always-on encoder at home: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the uploaded video looping from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos, not camera feeds, and streams to YouTube only.
