Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To loop videos in a YouTube Live broadcast, set up the playlist in your encoder—not in YouTube’s viewer playlist controls. In OBS Studio, add a VLC Video source, load your files, and enable Loop Playlist. You can also enable Shuffle Playlist, but OBS does not promise that a shuffled playlist will avoid matching videos at the end and start of consecutive cycles. If an immediate repeat at that boundary matters, check it and adjust the order.
Why YouTube’s playlist repeat button does not control a live broadcast
YouTube’s built-in repeat control is for people watching a playlist in the YouTube player. It repeats playback for the viewer; it does not determine which files a creator’s encoder sends to a live broadcast. YouTube Help explains that the playlist repeats continuously when the viewer activates the playlist control: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
The YouTube IFrame Player API also has loop and shuffle settings, but those configure an embedded player, not an encoder’s live output. Its setLoop(true) behavior returns an embedded playlist to its first video after the last, while setShuffle randomizes playlist order. YouTube’s player-parameter documentation likewise describes playlist looping for an embedded player: IFrame Player API and YouTube embedded player parameters.
Set up a repeating local playlist in OBS
This method is for broadcasting local video files as part of an OBS scene. You need OBS Studio, VLC installed on the same computer, video files you have permission to broadcast, and an existing YouTube Live connection configured in OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source relies on VLC libraries, so it may not appear until VLC is installed. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Prepare your files. Collect the videos for the broadcast and confirm you have the rights to stream them. Keep the files accessible from the computer running OBS.
- Install VLC. Install VLC on the OBS computer, then open or restart OBS if the VLC Video source is not available.
- Add a VLC Video source to the broadcast scene. In OBS, select the scene that forms the live output, add a source, and choose VLC Video. OBS scenes combine sources into the production output; the playlist belongs in the scene you intend to broadcast.
- Load the playlist. In the source’s properties, add the video files to its playlist. Arrange them in the order you want if sequence matters.
- Enable looping. Turn on Loop Playlist. OBS describes this as restarting the source after it runs out of media files.
- Choose whether to shuffle. Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want OBS to randomize the file order instead of following the list. Leave it off when you need a deliberate sequence.
- Preview a full cycle and its boundary. Check the transition from the last file back to the first. Shuffle randomizes order, but OBS does not document a guarantee that the last item in one cycle will differ from the first item in the next. If the boundary repeats a video and that is unacceptable, reorder the list or choose a different last-and-first pairing.
- Send the scene to YouTube Live. Use your already configured OBS streaming connection to send the scene output to the broadcast. Playlist repeat settings control the media source; they do not replace your live-stream connection setup.
Choose ordered looping or shuffle based on the boundary
| Playlist setting | What it does | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loop on, shuffle off | Restarts the source after the playlist runs out, keeping the listed order. | A planned sequence where you want to control the order. | Make sure the final and first entries are different if an immediate repeat is not acceptable. |
| Loop on, shuffle on | Restarts after the playlist ends and randomizes the file order. | Varied playback where a fixed sequence is not essential. | Shuffle is not documented as preventing the same video from appearing on both sides of the cycle boundary. |
These controls are separate in OBS: looping determines whether the source restarts after the files run out, while shuffle determines whether file order is randomized. The OBS documentation does not state that shuffle guarantees no adjacent duplicate at a cycle boundary.
