To remove, replace or blur your webcam background, enable the effect in NVIDIA Broadcast, then choose Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast) in the video-call or streaming app you use. Broadcast processes a live camera feed; it is not a tool for editing the background in a still image.
Check whether your PC is compatible
NVIDIA’s current product page lists Windows 10 64-bit, at least 8 GB of RAM, and a GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000, TITAN RTX or higher. It lists NVIDIA Studio Driver R570, Game Ready Driver R570 or NVIDIA RTX Enterprise Driver R570 and above. The recommended processor is an Intel Core i5 8600, AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or higher. These requirements can change, so confirm the current list on NVIDIA’s Broadcast product page before installing or buying hardware.
NVIDIA’s FAQ specifies driver 570.xx or higher and says an internet connection is required during installation so the app can download AI models for your GPU. See the NVIDIA Broadcast FAQ for current installation details.
Set up background removal in NVIDIA Broadcast
- Download and install NVIDIA Broadcast. Use NVIDIA’s official Broadcast page. Keep the PC connected to the internet during installation so the required models can download.
- Choose your camera input. Open Broadcast and select the webcam you want it to process.
- Enable a background effect. Choose Background Removal to remove the background, Background Replacement to show a chosen background instead, or Background Blur to soften what is behind you. NVIDIA describes these as webcam effects for customizing the camera background.
- Check the preview. Review the processed image in Broadcast before joining a call or starting a stream. NVIDIA’s setup guide shows the webcam preview and before-and-after comparison: NVIDIA Broadcast App Setup Guide.
- Route the processed video to your other app. Open the camera settings in your video-call or streaming software and select Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast) instead of the physical webcam. Broadcast creates a virtual camera device for other apps to use.
Choose the NVIDIA Broadcast camera in your app
The effect is applied in Broadcast, so the other app must receive Broadcast’s virtual camera feed. In the app’s camera or video settings, select Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast); if you select the webcam itself, the call or stream may show the unprocessed image. Troubleshoot a missing or unprocessed background effect
- The effect does not appear in the call or stream: Check that the app’s camera setting is Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast), not the physical webcam. Then confirm that the effect is enabled in Broadcast and visible in its preview.
- Broadcast will not install or the effects are unavailable: Recheck the Windows, GPU, memory and driver requirements on NVIDIA’s product page. NVIDIA’s FAQ also calls for driver 570.xx or higher and internet access during installation.
- The setup guide or screen differs from yours: Use NVIDIA’s current product and support information. Do not rely on an exact version number from a search result: NVIDIA’s product page has shown inconsistent version text.
Background effects process a live webcam image. The official materials describe the available modes and setup, but do not guarantee perfect edges or identical results in every lighting, movement or hair condition.
