To prevent silence between podcast episodes on a YouTube Live stream, make the playback source feeding your encoder play continuously. In OBS, loop one episode with a Media Source, or load multiple episodes into a VLC Video playlist and enable Loop Playlist. YouTube’s watch page does not control transitions between files, and OBS does not promise gapless or crossfaded playback between separate episodes—test the actual sequence before relying on it live.
Choose the right OBS playback source
The source that plays your files determines what happens when one episode ends. Configure playback at the encoder; changing YouTube’s ingestion protocol will not make a playlist gapless.
One episode that should repeat
- In OBS, add a Media Source and select the episode file.
- Enable Loop. OBS defines this setting as replaying the file when playback completes.
- Play the source and listen to the ending and restart in the program output before going live.
OBS Media Source supports common audio formats such as MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV, as well as common video formats. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
Several episodes in a set order
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. In OBS, add a VLC Video source and load the episode files into its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off so episodes stay in that order.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the final item. OBS documents this setting as on by default, but check it in your source.
- Listen through each file boundary in the output. Do not assume that one episode will begin seamlessly when the previous one ends.
VLC Video appears as an OBS source only when VLC is installed. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The OBS documentation describes playlist and loop controls but does not guarantee gapless or crossfaded transitions between separate files.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test and fix pauses before going live
Test the actual episode files and playback chain, especially the last seconds of one episode and the first seconds of the next. If you hear a pause, inspect the episode endings and starts and the playback source’s behavior. A brief gap may be present in the files themselves; looping or ordering a playlist does not remove silence already recorded at a file boundary.
- Only one file plays: Confirm that you added a VLC Video source for a multi-episode queue rather than a Media Source for a single file.
- The queue stops at the last episode: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Episodes play in the wrong order: Check the playlist order and leave Shuffle Playlist off.
- VLC Video is unavailable: Install VLC and ensure its bitness matches OBS; OBS requires 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- A pause remains at a boundary: Listen to the files around that transition and the OBS program output. OBS’s documented controls do not promise gapless playback, so verify whether the pause is in the source files or playback chain rather than expecting a YouTube setting to eliminate it.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream. Scheduling lets you promote the event and gives viewers the option to set reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream into the corresponding encoder settings in OBS.
- Start the encoder and monitor the YouTube Live output to confirm that the intended source and episode sequence are reaching the stream.
Follow YouTube’s current instructions in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If your broadcast will exceed that duration, plan its segments and replay needs rather than assuming the entire run will be archived as one automatic replay.

Would HLS remove the silence?
No. HLS is an optional ingestion protocol for compatible encoders, not a playlist-transition control. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments of one to four seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT requests; YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Those delivery requirements do not establish that HLS removes pauses between episodes. See YouTube’s HLS setup documentation.
Other ways to play prerecorded episodes
OBS is the direct software route for looping one file or playing a VLC playlist. YouTube’s encoder directory also describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. That is an optional hardware route, not a requirement for this task; weigh the operating arrangement, scheduling, monitoring and cost for your setup. The cited information does not establish a current retail price. YouTube also lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube stream to keep playing uploaded recordings without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. The setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and each slot supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers. Its first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
