Go to spotify.com/account/redeem in a browser, sign in to the Spotify account that should receive the Premium time, enter the card code, then select Continue and Redeem. Spotify gift cards generally apply only to Premium Individual, and the card’s purchase country must match the account’s country.
Check these requirements before redeeming
- Eligible plan: Gift cards are for Premium Individual, not Student, Duo, Family, Basic, or trial offers. Accounts with certain add-ons may also be ineligible. See Spotify’s gift-card troubleshooting guidance and add-on information.
- Matching country: The account country or region must match where the card was purchased. A code from another country may not work even if it is valid. Spotify’s gift-card terms explain this restriction.
- Retail activation: A physical card bought in a store must be activated by the cashier at purchase.
- Validity and balance: Expiration rules vary by market, so check the card and the applicable local terms. Spotify also limits stacked gift-card or other non-recurring Premium time to 18 months.
Redeem the code online
- Open spotify.com/account/redeem in a web browser. Spotify’s gift-card instructions direct users to this account page.
- Sign in to the account where you want the Premium time applied. Verify the account before continuing; the code is applied to the account you are signed into.
- For a physical card, gently scratch off the protective covering with a coin or card to reveal the PIN. Enter the alphanumeric code as printed.
- Select Continue, then select Redeem.
- Open your account’s plan or billing details and check the Premium status and next payment date.
Which plans can use a Spotify gift card?

Spotify’s rules are about Premium Individual specifically, not every plan branded Premium. If you are considering changing plans, review the plan terms shown in your account first; do not assume that switching is available or that unused time will be preserved.

What happens to billing after redemption?
If you are on Spotify Free, the prepaid Premium time starts immediately. If you already have an eligible Premium Individual subscription, the gift-card time generally begins on your next payment date. When the prepaid period is used up, normal payments resume, so check your account’s billing details rather than assuming redemption makes the subscription permanently non-recurring. Spotify describes this timing in its gift-card terms.
Fix a gift card that will not redeem
- Recheck the code. Spotify codes use capitalized letters and numbers. Check for lookalikes such as zero and capital O, or capital I and the number 1, and confirm that no characters are missing or added. Avoid repeatedly guessing; Spotify’s troubleshooting page covers code errors.
- Confirm store activation. If you bought a physical card at a retailer, ask the store to verify activation and bring proof of purchase if possible. An unactivated card cannot be fixed by re-entering its code.
- Check the account country. The account country must match the card’s purchase country. For a Spotify Free account, go to the account page, choose Edit profile, scroll to Country or region, select the country if available, then choose Save profile. Spotify says the new country generally appears only when you are physically there. Premium users may need a payment method issued in the new country, and a change may take effect from the next billing date. Change this setting to reflect a genuine move, not to bypass card restrictions. See Spotify’s country and region instructions.
- Verify plan eligibility. Check whether the account is on Student, Duo, Family, Basic, a trial, or has an add-on. Review the account’s available plan and add-on terms before changing or cancelling anything; the consequences depend on the account.
- Check the expiration terms and prepaid-time cap. Expiration is market-specific. If the account already has 18 months of non-recurring Premium time, another card may not fit within Spotify’s stated stacking limit.
- Pause after repeated failures. Spotify says four unsuccessful attempts may trigger an error requiring a 24-hour wait. Further attempts will not resolve a country mismatch or activation problem.
- Consider the seller. Avoid codes from unknown discount marketplaces. Spotify says cards tied to suspected online purchase fraud may be revoked if the purchasing account is disabled; see its disabled-account guidance.
If the code still fails after these checks, contact Spotify support with the exact error and the card details, or ask the retailer to investigate activation. Do not share the full code publicly.

Do Spotify gift cards still exist?
Availability for purchase is regional. Spotify’s support pages for Canada and its U.S. Spanish-language market state that gift cards are no longer available to buy there, while previously purchased cards may still be redeemed if they meet the terms. That does not establish a worldwide discontinuation; check the local Spotify support page for your market.
