To record in Streamlabs Talk Studio, open Settings with Shift+G, enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both under Output, then click Record for a standalone recording or Go Live to record while streaming. Find and download saved recordings from Account icon → Account Settings → Broadcasts & Recordings.
Set up Talk Studio before recording
- Open Talk Studio in Google Chrome or Safari, as Streamlabs recommends. Use a stable internet connection; its getting-started guide gives 5 Mbps as a minimum upload speed. This is guidance, not a guarantee of broadcast performance. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide
- Configure your studio session and participants before starting. If you plan to record locally, make sure the computer has at least 5 GB of free space. Local recording is not supported on mobile devices. Streamlabs’ local-recording guide
- Open Settings with Shift+G, then go to Output. Turn on Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both, depending on the files you need.
For network planning, Streamlabs’ 2025 getting-started guide lists 5 Mbps required and 10 Mbps recommended for 720p, and 10 Mbps required and 20 Mbps recommended for 1080p. These recommendations do not guarantee that a particular connection will sustain a stream. Check the current getting-started guide for its latest advice.
Choose cloud or local recording

Record without going live
- Enable your preferred recording output in Settings → Output.
- Click Record. Enter a title when prompted.
- When finished, click Stop Recording.

Record while streaming live
- Before going live, turn on Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both under Settings → Output.
- Click Go Live. The recording starts with the stream.
- When the broadcast is over, click End Stream. For a recording made alongside a live stream, Streamlabs ties stopping the recording to ending the stream.
- Go to Account icon → Account Settings → Broadcasts & Recordings and download the files you want to keep.
Talk Studio’s interface can change, so if a control is missing, consult Streamlabs’ current getting-started instructions and the in-product settings.
Find recordings, understand limits, and keep copies
Streamlabs’ recording articles describe retention of the 15 most recent recordings for 15 days on Standard and 30 days on Pro, after which older recordings are automatically deleted. Its recording guide was last updated September 16, 2025. The current plans page explicitly lists 30-day recording storage for Pro; verify Standard’s current storage terms in the live plan details, since those terms may change. Streamlabs recommends downloading recordings to an external hard drive for safekeeping. The storage you need depends on recording length, quality, participant count, and how long you want to retain files; the guide does not specify a universal drive capacity. Once recordings are deleted after the applicable retention period, Streamlabs says they cannot be retrieved.
The plans page lists Standard at 720p, up to 5 guests, and up to 4 hours per track; Pro is listed at 1080p, up to 11 guests, and up to 10 hours per track. Pro also lists multistreaming and 30-day storage. Check the live plan page for current limits and availability before choosing a plan. Talk Studio plans

Troubleshoot common recording problems
- No recording starts: Confirm Cloud Recording or Local Recording is enabled in Settings → Output before clicking Record or Go Live. If an option is unavailable, check whether your plan and device support it.
- Local recording is unavailable on a phone or tablet: Local recording does not support mobile devices. Use a supported desktop device or choose cloud recording if it is available for your account.
- Local recording stops or splits during a live session: Changing audio or video settings during a live broadcast stops the current local recording and starts a new one. Avoid changing those settings mid-broadcast; check for a new track afterward.
- Local recording cannot start or ends unexpectedly: Check that at least 5 GB of computer storage is free. This is Streamlabs’ stated minimum, not a guarantee that all session lengths will fit.
- You cannot find an older recording: Check Account Settings → Broadcasts & Recordings and confirm it is still within your account’s retention limit. Download important files promptly because expired recordings may be deleted.
- Live video quality is unstable: Compare upload speed with Streamlabs’ guidance for your chosen resolution, then check connection stability. The published Mbps figures are recommendations, not a promise that your network will maintain the stream.
