1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo randomize prerecorded videos in a 24/7 YouTube live stream, add them to an OBS Studio VLC Video source, turn on Shuffle Playlist and Loop Playlist, then send OBS’s output to YouTube Live with your stream URL and stream key. This shuffles local media before it reaches YouTube; it does not shuffle a playlist hosted on a YouTube watch page.
What “shuffle a YouTube live playlist” means
A YouTube live stream is the video and audio transmission sent by an encoder. The playlist in this workflow is a list of source video files played by OBS. YouTube receives the resulting stream; the shuffle setting is in OBS, not in YouTube’s viewer-facing playlist controls.
This method does not establish a way to give OBS a YouTube-hosted playlist URL and have it shuffle those videos. Add media files that you can access and have the rights to stream.
Set up a shuffled, looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS documents the source for Windows, macOS and Linux. See OBS Media Sources.
- Add the playlist source. In your OBS scene, add a VLC Video source and add the prerecorded video files you want in its playlist. Use VLC Video for a multi-file playlist; the built-in Media Source is documented with a loop option for repeating one file.
- Enable random order. In the VLC Video source properties, check Shuffle Playlist. OBS describes this option as randomizing the media files being played or keeping them in file-list order. It is off by default.
- Keep playback continuous. Check Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the playlist reaches its end. This option is on by default. OBS documents the shuffle toggle but does not specify a guaranteed new order for every loop or promise that each item appears exactly once per cycle.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select a stream and copy its server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Start streaming from OBS, check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room, and follow YouTube’s prompt to go live. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Keep the stream running and plan for replays
A 24/7 stream depends on the encoder continuing to play and transmit the source. With this OBS method, the files and encoder run on your computer, so the machine and its connection must remain available for the broadcast to continue.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will be archived as a replay. The YouTube Live Streaming API also distinguishes a stream—the audio-video transmission—from a broadcast—a distinct watchable YouTube video. Treat the ongoing feed and any replay as separate concerns; see YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video is missing from OBS: install VLC, then reopen OBS. For 64-bit OBS, make sure the installed VLC version is 64-bit.
- The playlist plays in order: open the VLC Video source properties and check Shuffle Playlist.
- Playback stops at the end: check Loop Playlist. Without looping, reaching the last item does not make the playlist restart.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: confirm that OBS has the correct server URL and stream key for the selected YouTube stream. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health status, and follow its go-live prompt.
- You cannot start a first live broadcast immediately: YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that activation before relying on a scheduled start.
- You expect a full-day replay: the cited YouTube guidance covers automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast.
When HLS settings matter
HLS is not needed just to shuffle a media list. If you specifically choose HLS ingestion, YouTube requires a compatible encoder output and strict segment settings; YouTube also says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video segments rather than a continuous stream. Use YouTube’s HLS setup guidance for that separate configuration.
