Yes—Google really did add a playable Squid Game mini-game to Search. It is a short Red Light, Green Light Easter egg introduced around the promotion of Season 2 in December 2024. It is not a full adaptation of the series, and Google has not confirmed that it remains available to every user in 2026.
How to play the Squid Game mini-game in Google Search
- Open Google Search in a browser or the official Google app.
- Search for Squid Game.
- Look for a themed card or button featuring the show’s circle, triangle and square symbols.
- Tap or click the card or play button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to start Red Light, Green Light.
The activation path above describes the original feature. The card may not appear for every user now because promotional Search features can be changed, tested or removed without notice.
What game is included?
The Google feature recreates the central mechanic of Red Light, Green Light:

It is a brief browser interaction—not a campaign, multiplayer suite or collection of every challenge from the television series. User reports from the original launch period described a themed card near the bottom of the results page and, in some versions, several characters being controlled at once. Those details may have reflected the original interface and should not be treated as permanent features.

Does the Google Search game still work?
Its original existence is confirmed, but universal availability in 2026 is not. Google introduced the feature around December 2024 as part of the promotion for Squid Game Season 2. It was a promotional Search experience rather than a clearly permanent game.

If you cannot find the card, that does not necessarily mean you searched incorrectly. Availability may vary according to:
- Whether Google has ended or rotated the promotion.
- Your country, device, account or Search interface.
- Whether you use a browser or the Google app.
- Search experiments and personalization.
- Content blockers, restricted modes or managed-device policies.
Google’s Doodle archive contains interactive games, but the retrieved archive does not clearly identify this Search feature as a permanent archived Doodle. It is therefore more accurate to call it a Google Search Easter egg or promotional mini-game—not a permanent Google Doodle.

What to do if the card does not appear
- Make sure you are searching on Google, not Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo or an in-app search field.
- Search the exact phrase Squid Game without adding extra words.
- Try both a standard browser and the Google app.
- Try Google Search on a desktop if it is missing on your phone, or vice versa.
- Temporarily check whether a strict content blocker is hiding interactive Search elements.
- Try a private browsing window or another Google account.
- If you are using a work or school device, check whether its administrator blocks interactive content.
If none of these steps works, the simplest explanation may be that Google is no longer showing the promotion in your location or on your Search surface.
Do not download an APK, browser extension or unknown program claiming to restore the Google game. These unofficial copies may contain aggressive advertising, tracking or malware and are not equivalent to Google’s Search feature.

Google Search mini-game vs. Netflix’s Squid Game: Unleashed
These are separate products:

Squid Game: Unleashed is the substantially larger official game. Google has described it as a 32-player party-royale-style title, with support for compatible larger-screen devices discussed in its Chromebook announcement.
Netflix previously offered a limited promotion allowing non-members to play beginning December 17, 2024, with an earlier date for customers in Canada and Mexico. That historical promotion should not be assumed to remain active. Check Netflix’s current support information before relying on it.

As easy as the rules are, it's actually quite a challenging game that takes a lot more skill than you would think - but no worries, I'll give you a tip later to maximize our chances of winning this pastime.
Can you play without Netflix?
For the Google Search mini-game, Netflix membership was not the access mechanism. You simply used Google Search when the promotional card was available.
That does not mean the same applies to Squid Game: Unleashed. The Netflix title has its own device, installation and access requirements, which may change over time.
Do not confuse Google Search with Google Play
The mini-game appeared in Google Search. It was not established as a Google Play Store or Google Play Games download.

Google Play Games is a separate gaming platform with a large catalog for supported mobile and PC environments. Looking there for the Search Easter egg will not restore a promotional card that Google has removed from Search.
Which option is right for you?
- Want a quick novelty? Search Google for Squid Game and look for the themed card.
- Want a larger official game? Check Squid Game: Unleashed through Netflix’s official information and distribution channels.
- Want no installation? The Search feature is the better fit, if it is still being shown.
- Want something dependable? Do not rely on a temporary Search promotion as a permanent game.
- Want to avoid accounts or subscriptions? Verify the current requirements for any Netflix title before installing it.
The key distinction is simple: Google Search offered a small, free-to-try promotional interaction, while Squid Game: Unleashed is a separate, full-scale licensed game. Neither should be confused with unofficial websites or downloads promising to recreate the Google feature.
