Netflix’s Profile Transfer feature can copy an eligible profile to either a new Netflix account or an account you already own. It preserves personalization such as recommendations, viewing history, My List and game data, but it does not transfer payment information, the old subscription or billing arrangement. The ordinary new-account and existing-account workflows leave the original profile in place until you remove it yourself.
What Netflix Profile Transfer actually does
Profile Transfer is different from changing an account email address. Changing the email keeps the same Netflix account; Profile Transfer copies one profile’s data into a separate destination account. Netflix documents the feature at Profile transfers.

For ordinary new- and existing-account transfers, “move” means copy: the old profile remains on the source account. Only the Extra Member route removes it from the original account.
Check these requirements first
The source account must be active, and the profile must meet Netflix’s eligibility rules:

- It must not be a Netflix Kids profile.
- It must not have a Profile Lock PIN.
- It must not have an email address assigned specifically to the profile.
- It must not already belong to an Extra Member account.
- A primary profile cannot be transferred to an Extra Member account.
Have the destination account’s email address and password ready. Use a desktop or mobile web browser; Netflix’s documented workflow runs through the Account page. If transfers were disabled on the source account, the account holder must re-enable them before the option appears.
Remove a Profile Lock PIN
- Open Netflix’s Account page in a browser.
- Select Profiles, then choose the profile.
- Select Profile Lock.
- Choose Delete Profile Lock and confirm.
A Profile Lock is a four-digit profile PIN, not the account password. Netflix explains the setting at How to add, edit, or remove a profile PIN.
Remove a profile-level email address
A profile email is separate from the account’s main email. Open the profile-management area from the Account page and remove the email assigned to that individual profile. Do not change the main account email unless you actually want to change the account login; Netflix notes that an account email cannot be changed to an address already used on another account. What transfers, and what stays behind?

Netflix controls the transfer package and may change it. The destination account needs its own billing setup; your old payment method does not follow the profile.

- Sign in to the Netflix account containing the profile using a web browser.
- Open Account.
- Select Profiles, then choose the profile.
- Select Profile Transfer.
- Select Start Profile Transfer.
- Choose A New Account.
- Enter the email address and password for the new account.
- Follow Netflix’s prompts to finish setting up the account and add its own payment method.
Netflix signs you in to the new account when the process finishes. The source profile remains available on the old account, so do not delete it until you have checked the copy.
Move the profile to an existing Netflix account
- Sign in through a browser to the account that currently contains the profile.
- Open Account, select Profiles, and choose the profile.
- Select Profile Transfer, then Start Profile Transfer.
- Choose An Existing Account.
- Enter the email address and password for the destination account.
- Select Transfer Profile to confirm.
Netflix signs you in to the destination account after completion. This route is useful when you accidentally created a second account or want to consolidate a profile into an account you already pay for.

New account, existing account or Extra Member?
Choose a new account
Use A New Account when you are leaving a shared account and need your own Netflix membership. You will create separate billing and subscription details.
Choose an existing account
Use An Existing Account when the destination account already exists. The profile is copied into it; Netflix does not merge the old subscription or payment method.

Understand the Extra Member exception
Extra Member transfer is a separate purchase flow, not a later transfer into an already-created Extra Member account. The account owner must select the profile while buying the Extra Member slot. Netflix then moves the profile and removes it from the original account. Availability depends on country, plan, package and billing arrangement; see Sharing your Netflix account for the account-sharing context.

Partner billing can change the order of operations. For some package or third-party-billed accounts, Netflix may require another payment method during transfer, followed by linking the account to the partner package. If the profile will not be the destination account’s main profile, creating the account through the partner first and then using the existing-account route may be possible. Rules vary by country and provider.

Check these causes in order:
- The source account is inactive.
- The profile is a Kids profile.
- A Profile Lock PIN is still enabled.
- A profile-level email address is attached.
- The profile belongs to an Extra Member account.
- You are trying to transfer a primary profile to an Extra Member account.
- Profile transfers are disabled on the source account.
- You are attempting to duplicate a profile within the same account.
If transfers are disabled, the account holder can use Netflix’s profile-transfer permission page to allow them. Netflix may send a confirmation email; if approval is not immediate, Netflix says the feature can become available automatically after two days.
Kids profiles
Netflix does not transfer Kids profiles. You can create a regular profile and manually recreate preferences, but its Kids viewing history and personalization will not be carried over by the official tool. Netflix describes the separate Kids experience at How to create a profile for kids.

An interrupted new-account transfer
Return to Netflix in a browser, sign in with the email address and password used to start the transfer, choose Finish Transfer, and follow the prompts. Do not create another account with a different email before trying to finish the pending transfer.
Moving within your country or to another country
Changing address in the same country
A move within your current country is primarily a Netflix Household issue. You may need to update the Netflix Household rather than transfer the profile. Netflix’s guidance is at Moving with Netflix.
Moving to another country
International relocation is a separate restart-and-sign-up process. Netflix says you generally cancel and sign up again in the new country. Price, currency, payment methods, catalog, audio, subtitles and maturity ratings can change. Netflix says viewing activity, recommendations, ratings and account details may be saved for 24 months after account closure, but this is not a promise that an ordinary Profile Transfer will preserve the same catalog or billing conditions.
If you recently canceled Netflix
First check whether restarting the old membership is better than transferring to a new account. When Netflix allows a membership to be restarted, profiles, My List, game saves and payment information may remain available. If Netflix cannot find the old account and you create a new one, prior profiles, My List and game saves will not appear automatically. See How to restart your Netflix membership.

Verify the destination before deleting anything
Because ordinary transfers copy rather than delete, keep the original profile until you have checked:
- Continue Watching and viewing history
- My List
- Recommendations
- Subtitle, dubbing and language preferences
- Maturity restrictions and autoplay settings
- Game saves and game handle, if applicable
- The destination email address and subscription plan
Once satisfied, you can remove the old copy from Manage Profiles, unless it is the account’s primary profile or another account rule prevents deletion.
