Monitor the machine doing the encoding, then check OBS and YouTube for delivery problems. OVHcloud provider monitoring can tell you whether a host is reachable, but that is different from seeing whether OBS is overloaded or whether the connection to YouTube can sustain the stream’s bitrate. The exact OVHcloud dashboard and operating-system steps depend on whether you use Web Hosting, a VPS, or a Dedicated Server—and where OBS runs.
First, identify where the stream is being encoded
CPU load occurs where the encoder runs. If OBS runs on an OVHcloud machine, monitor that machine’s CPU and network activity. If OBS runs on your local computer while OVHcloud hosts another part of the setup, monitor the local computer for encoding and upload behavior and the OVHcloud service for the work it actually performs. Do not assume that hosting infrastructure and the encoder are the same system.
Also identify the OVHcloud product. OVHcloud’s documented CPU and outgoing-connection graphs described below apply to Web Hosting plans; they should not be treated as VPS or Dedicated Server instructions. OVHcloud’s dedicated-server monitoring guidance addresses reachability and provider intervention, not a full view of OBS workload or stream delivery.
Understand which monitoring layer answers which question
| Monitoring layer | What it can help you determine | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud service or provider monitoring | Whether a host or service is responding; whether your specific product exposes resource graphs. | Provider reachability alone does not show whether OBS is overloaded or the encoder’s upload path can sustain the configured bitrate. |
| Encoder machine metrics | CPU and network activity on the system running OBS or another encoder. | Host metrics alone do not confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. |
| OBS and YouTube diagnostics | OBS dropped-frame and encoding indicators, plus YouTube stream health and messages. | These diagnostics concern the encoder-to-ingest path; they do not, by themselves, identify which network operator is responsible for a delivery problem. |
Use the layer that measures the part of the system you are investigating. A host-reachability alert, high encoder CPU, and OBS network-dropped frames are different symptoms and call for different checks.

Set a representative baseline before going live
- Use the intended workload. Test with the resolution, frame rate, scene complexity, audio, and motion you expect during the event. A quiet static scene may not represent a documentary stream with movement or changing scenes.
- Check upload capacity. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test and testing the stream before the event. Compare sustained upload behavior with the bitrate you plan to use; a speed-test result is not a guarantee of continuous performance to YouTube’s ingest server.
- Record your configuration and observations. Note the encoder, bitrate, resolution, and frame rate, then observe CPU and network behavior on the encoder machine during the test. There is no universal CPU threshold or upload-headroom percentage established for every encoder, preset, codec, workload, and connection.
- Keep YouTube’s published settings in context. YouTube’s encoder-settings page specifies different minimum and recommended bitrates according to codec, resolution, and frame rate. For example, its 720p at 30 fps H.264 row lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended; the 720p at 30 fps AV1 or H.265 row lists 2 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommended. For 480p at 30 fps and 360p at 30 fps, the H.264 rows each list 0.4 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee that your particular upload path can sustain the stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, CBR bitrate encoding, a recommended two-second keyframe frequency (not exceeding four seconds), and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection in transit to and through Google’s servers. Check YouTube’s current guidance for the live requirements and labels before configuring a stream, since platform settings can change: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Monitor the stream while it is live
Check OBS statistics
In OBS, open the Statistics view and watch the dropped-frame and other relevant counters during the stream. OBS distinguishes network-dropped frames from encoding or rendering problems. If the dropped-frames counter rises while the connection indicator turns yellow or red, OBS says the connection to the server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Its troubleshooting guidance describes dropped frames or intermittent disconnections as a network issue between the computer and remote ingest server. That points to the encoder-to-ingest path; it does not prove OVHcloud is at fault.

Check YouTube Live Control Room
Review stream health and messages in YouTube Live Control Room during the event. YouTube’s guidance says: “During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.” Treat these platform-side indicators as a separate view from the CPU and network metrics on the encoder machine.

Use OVHcloud graphs only where they apply
For OVHcloud Web Hosting plans, the Control Panel’s Statistics and logs tab documents infrastructure graphs including CPU usage, outgoing connections, resource-limit events, and other statistics. This path is product-specific and should not be assumed to exist for VPS or Dedicated Servers. Consult the guidance for your actual service before relying on a panel or metric: OVHcloud Web Hosting statistics and logs.
For Dedicated Servers, OVHcloud’s monitoring article describes provider-side reachability monitoring and intervention. Use it to understand host-availability signals, not as a substitute for encoder or stream diagnostics: OVHcloud Dedicated Server monitoring.

Diagnose symptoms by layer
CPU is heavily loaded or OBS reports encoding or rendering lag
- Confirm that you are observing the machine actually running the encoder.
- Review the encoder settings and the workload in the scene, including resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
- Compare the test workload with the live workload. The available guidance does not establish a universal CPU cutoff or a verified hardware recommendation, so interpret utilization alongside OBS’s encoding or rendering indicators and the behavior of your particular setup.
OBS reports increasing network-dropped frames
- Compare the configured bitrate with sustained upload capacity from the encoder machine, not just a brief speed-test peak.
- Check connection stability to the ingest server and YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- Keep this diagnosis separate from CPU or rendering lag. OBS’s network indicator and dropped-frame counter are evidence about delivery to the ingest server, not proof that OVHcloud’s network is responsible.
The OVHcloud host is unreachable or raises an availability alert
Treat this as a host or reachability incident and consult monitoring details for the specific OVHcloud service. A reachability alert does not by itself diagnose stream bitrate, OBS load, or YouTube ingest health.
You cannot find the expected OVHcloud CPU graph
Confirm the product class before following instructions: the documented Statistics and logs graphs apply to Web Hosting. Do not transfer that navigation to a VPS or Dedicated Server without checking the applicable product documentation.

Keep monitoring specific to the setup
The correct dashboard, operating-system counters, and encoder settings depend on where OBS runs, which OVHcloud service you use, and how the YouTube ingest connection is configured. Establish those details first, then compare host metrics, OBS statistics, and YouTube stream health without treating any one layer as a substitute for the others.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream rather than troubleshoot an OBS setup, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream continues with your computer off. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
