Make a tech house track by building a steady four-on-the-floor groove, a tight syncopated bass part, and a small number of punchy percussion and synth hooks, then arrange and refine those parts in a DAW. Set Up A Tech House Brief
Before generating anything, decide what the track needs to do. Tech house usually leaves space around a driving kick and bass groove, using concise percussion and a repeated hook rather than a crowded wall of parts. Write a short brief you can reuse while generating and editing:
- Purpose: club-focused instrumental, warm-up groove, or a track for a video scene.
- Feel: dark, playful, minimal, or energetic.
- Core parts: four-on-the-floor kick, syncopated bass, crisp hats, sparse percussion, and one memorable synth or vocal-style hook.
- Arrangement: a clear opening, gradual additions, a breakdown, and a return to the full groove.
For example, try this prompt in Beat Shaper: “Tech house instrumental, steady four-on-the-floor kick, tight syncopated bass, crisp closed hats, sparse percussion, one short muted synth hook, restrained and club-focused, leave space between parts.” This is a creative prompt, not a confirmed product preset or guaranteed result. If the output is too busy or melodic, simplify the brief and regenerate or edit the parts.
Build The Groove In Beat Shaper
- Generate a drum foundation. Ask for a steady four-on-the-floor kick with restrained hats and sparse percussion. Use the genre, energy, and syncopation controls to steer the character; listen for a consistent pulse and room for the bass.
- Generate a bassline against the kick. Request a short, repetitive bass part with syncopation and space between notes. Keep the kick clear: if the bass masks it, edit the piano roll or try a simpler generation.
- Add one hook at a time. Generate a compact synth loop or percussive accent. A short motif that leaves gaps is easier to place in a groove than several competing lead parts.
- Audition the parts together. Use the editable parts and arrangement tools to compare combinations. Mute or remove anything that makes the kick, bass, or main hook harder to hear.
- Shape the energy across sections. Build an opening with fewer elements, add percussion or the hook gradually, then create a breakdown and bring the groove back. Check that the arrangement has contrast without losing its central pulse.
- Export for finishing. Choose an export format that fits your next step. Beat Shaper lists MIDI, WAV, MP3, stem, and DAW project export options; Ableton Live project export and real-time MIDI require Producer. If your plan or chosen export does not provide separate parts in a usable format, check Beat Shaper’s current plan details before building your workflow around it.
Refine The Track In Your DAW
Use the exported parts as production material, not as a finished mix. Balance the kick and bass first, then add the hats, percussion, and hook. If you exported MIDI, choose sounds and shape the parts in your DAW; if you exported audio or stems, arrange and process those files there. For a video edit, place the strongest groove where the scene needs momentum, and leave a clean transition or reduced section where dialogue or sound effects need room. Export a version suited to the edit and check that it fits the timing and mix of the project.
