For unattended recovery, also set OBS’s working directory to the folder containing obs64.exe, confirm YouTube’s stream settings, and test what happens when the PC starts before the internet connection is ready. This can automate a normal restart; it does not guarantee recovery from every outage or failure.
What this setup can and cannot recover
OBS’s --startstreaming launch parameter starts streaming from the OBS configuration it opens. OBS also has an automatic reconnect setting for a connection loss after OBS has started. These are separate safeguards: reconnect helps with a dropped connection, while the launch parameter starts OBS streaming when OBS is launched.
Neither setting is a complete fault-monitoring system. This arrangement does not promise to detect a frozen camera, a crashed OBS process, a failed router, or a YouTube-side problem and repair it. The launch parameter also does not wait for Windows, the router, or internet service to become ready. An OBS community discussion reports that an early first connection attempt can fail if the network is not yet available; treat delayed launch or retrying as something to test, not a guaranteed OBS feature.
Prepare the YouTube stream and OBS configuration
Check the stream in YouTube Studio

In YouTube Studio, select or create the intended encoder stream and review its settings. YouTube’s live-stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls; verify that they match how you intend the broadcast to start and end.

Get the stream URL and stream key from the stream’s encoder setup. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential the encoder uses to send the feed for YouTube to accept. Handle it like a password: do not share it or include it in a public screenshot. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Distinguish sending an encoder feed from making a scheduled broadcast public. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions include waiting for the Live Control Room preview and clicking Go live. Do not assume that starting OBS automatically makes every scheduled broadcast publicly live; confirm the intended mode and controls in Studio.
Confirm the OBS profile and reconnect option

Open OBS and select the profile and scene collection that should be used after a restart. In Settings → Stream, confirm the YouTube service or server URL and the correct stream key. OBS’s overview guide describes the stream configuration and testing workflow.

In Settings → Advanced, review Automatically Reconnect and its available options. It can help after OBS has established a stream and then loses the connection; the documentation does not promise that it will recover when the initial connection attempt fails.

Save the setup and test it before relying on unattended operation. OBS recommends testing settings before streaming.

Launch OBS and start streaming with Windows
OBS Project documents --startstreaming as a launch parameter that will “Automatically start streaming.” Add it to the OBS launch command used by your chosen Windows startup mechanism.

Find the path to
obs64.exein your OBS installation folder. The exact folder can vary by installation. -
Configure a shortcut or automated Windows launch so that the executable is
obs64.exeand the launch parameter is--startstreaming. In a command-style launch, the form is"C:pathtoobs64.exe" --startstreaming; replace the example path with the actual executable path on your PC.Special offer. Set the launch’s working directory—sometimes called “Start in”—to the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS specifically advises this for automated launches on Windows. -
Choose a Windows startup mechanism appropriate to when you want OBS to launch, such as at system startup or after a user signs in. The exact Task Scheduler dialog steps and labels are not established here, so verify the options shown by your Windows version rather than assuming a particular screen or trigger.

The parameter tells OBS to begin streaming as it launches; it is not an online-readiness check. If Windows starts before your router or internet service is ready, consider delaying the launch or using a retry mechanism that checks connectivity. Test whichever approach you choose: OBS’s official launch-parameter documentation does not describe an online-wait feature or a universal retry-until-connected setup.
Test a full restart before depending on it

Arrange a controlled test when it is safe to interrupt the broadcast. Restart Windows and confirm that OBS opens with the intended profile, scene collection, and stream configuration.

Check the YouTube Live Control Room for the incoming stream and verify whether the broadcast is in preview or live, as intended. Do not use the presence of an open OBS window alone as proof that viewers can see the stream.

Repeat the test with network access unavailable when OBS launches, if you need to understand that failure mode. Restore connectivity and observe whether your chosen delay or retry method works; do not assume the launch parameter alone will make another attempt.

Test the precise startup trigger and recovery path you plan to use. A manual OBS launch test does not establish that a scheduled launch, a reboot, and an early-starting router will behave the same way.

Troubleshoot when OBS opens but the stream does not resume

OBS opens, but YouTube receives no feed: Check that the intended OBS profile is active and that the service/server URL and stream key are correct. Confirm in YouTube Studio that you are looking at the matching stream.

The feed fails after a reboot: Check whether OBS launched before the router or internet connection was ready. Test a delayed launch or connectivity-aware retry rather than treating
--startstreamingas a network wait mechanism. -
The stream connects, then drops: Review OBS’s automatic reconnect options under Settings → Advanced. This setting addresses reconnection after OBS is running; it does not guarantee recovery from every kind of interruption.

The stream appears unhealthy or stops: YouTube recommends updating third-party encoder software, inspecting the encoder output for errors or high CPU load, and checking outbound internet connectivity. Follow its live-stream troubleshooting guidance.

A scheduled broadcast stays in preview: Check the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and the Live Control Room. You may need to click Go live for the scheduled stream rather than assuming OBS sending data is enough.

A power interruption is the underlying risk: A UPS sized for the actual PC and network-equipment load may help through a brief outage, but it does not restore an internet-service outage or guarantee that OBS will restart and stream correctly. No runtime or capacity can be recommended without knowing the equipment and load.
