You can run a continuous YouTube music stream with OBS by preparing music and visuals you have the rights to broadcast, creating an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and sending it from OBS over a reliable, continuously powered internet connection. First verify that your channel can livestream; then test the stream and plan how you will monitor and recover it. A 24-hour broadcast is not guaranteed to be saved as one replay: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Before you start: check channel access and prepare the stream
Enable livestreaming early
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, and YouTube’s general live-stream guidance sets a minimum age of 16. Check eligibility before scheduling a launch so activation time does not become a last-minute problem.
Choose music and visuals you can legally broadcast
Use music and imagery you created or have permission to use for the planned live broadcast. A consumer music subscription, giving attribution, or being able to play a track locally does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it in a public stream. YouTube’s terms say creators must have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights, and satisfy applicable territory-specific requirements. Those rights should cover the intended audience and any recording or replay as well as the live use.
This applies to Indian creators too, but the applicable license depends on the catalog, recording, venue and business model. Do not assume a single blanket permission covers every use; confirm the rights for your specific material and territories before going live.

Prepare an OBS scene and playlist
Organize the audio and the visual loop or scene you intend to broadcast. Check that the playlist advances and that the audio is audible and balanced. YouTube does not establish special studio hardware as mandatory for this prerecorded music-and-visual setup; the essential requirements are a working encoder, suitable content rights and a reliable connection.
How to connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live, then create or select an encoder stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter them, or select YouTube as the service if that option is available in your OBS version. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it.
- Set up OBS’s output. Choose an output bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s guidance is to leave 20% headroom beyond the total bitrate, so do not use all measured upload capacity for the stream. Confirm the settings against your connection and YouTube’s current encoder guidance; a single preset cannot be recommended for every computer, resolution and network.
- Start a test before public launch. Where appropriate, use a private or unlisted test. Check the Live Control Room preview and watch page, listen to the audio, inspect the video, and test playback on a mobile device. Confirm that the playlist continues rather than stopping after one track.
- Go live and verify playback. Start streaming from OBS and check that YouTube receives the feed and that viewers can reach the intended watch page. Keep the stream key private even after setup.
Bitrate, internet and continuous operation
Use upload speed—not download speed—to assess whether your connection can carry the stream. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total bitrate and warns that network disruption can break a stream. Wi-Fi interference, router or ISP outages, power loss, computer sleep and OBS failure can all interrupt a local setup; no bitrate setting can eliminate those risks.

- Test the connection at the location and time you expect to stream, and leave the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- Prevent the computer from sleeping or restarting unexpectedly, and make sure OBS remains open and streaming.
- If local power reliability is a concern, a UPS sized for the computer and router may help with brief power interruptions. It does not solve an internet outage or guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
- Arrange regular checks or alerts so someone notices loss of audio, video or stream reachability and can respond.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on a single 24-hour YouTube replay. YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not promise an archive for a continuous 24-hour stream. If a replay matters, consider splitting the broadcast into sessions shorter than 12 hours and/or making a separate local recording, then verify the archive behavior on your own channel before depending on it.
Copyright, monetization and India-specific considerations
YouTube’s live-stream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” They also place responsibility on the creator for applicable territory-specific regulatory requirements. For an India-focused stream, check the rights that apply to your particular recordings, catalog and use rather than assuming that a license for one context covers a worldwide online broadcast.

YouTube may offer live ads, Super Chat or Super Stickers, and channel memberships depending on channel eligibility and settings. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A continuously running broadcast does not guarantee views, eligibility or revenue.
What to do if the stream fails
- YouTube does not receive OBS: Check the selected service, server URL and stream key in OBS against the stream in Live Control Room. If you exposed the key, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The preview buffers or drops: Check upload capacity and restore the recommended 20% headroom. Reduce the stream’s total bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, then retest.
- Audio or video is missing: Inspect the OBS scene sources and audio routing, then confirm both in the Live Control Room preview and on the watch page.
- The playlist stops or repeats incorrectly: Check the playlist or media source behavior in OBS and run a longer test before relaunching.
- The stream goes offline after an outage: Restore the network or power, check OBS and YouTube’s stream status, and reconnect using the intended stream. Continuous local operation requires a recovery plan; a test alone cannot prevent later interruptions.
- No full-day replay appears: A 24-hour session is outside YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window for streams under 12 hours. Use shorter sessions or a separate recording workflow if you need a replay.
