To make a 24/7 white-noise stream on YouTube, create an encoder-based live broadcast in YouTube Studio, send it a black or near-black video feed and white-noise audio you own or have permission to use, then start the encoder and go live in Live Control Room. You can run the encoder on a computer or use optional encoder hardware; YouTube’s instructions do not require a dedicated device. Plan separately for interruptions and recordings: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube archive.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16 for live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder: streaming software on a computer or optional dedicated encoder hardware. YouTube supports encoder streaming but does not require particular hardware.
- A video feed that is black or near-black and an audible white-noise feed. Create both yourself or use material you have permission to stream.
- A stable power and internet connection for the device running the encoder. A local setup stops sending video and audio if that device or connection goes down.
How to make the white-noise livestream
- Prepare the content. Create or obtain a white-noise recording or synthesis that you have rights to use, and make a black or near-black visual. The YouTube encoder instructions do not prescribe a particular black-frame generator or noise-generation method. Check the feed for audible noise without clipping and for unintended imagery before broadcasting.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go live, and set up an encoder stream. Add the title, description, audience selection, and other stream settings for the broadcast.
- Copy the connection details. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding stream settings in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube’s workflow is described in its encoder setup guide.
- Configure and start the encoder. Select the prepared black video and white-noise audio as its sources, then start streaming. Exact controls depend on the encoder software or hardware you choose; there is no single universal 24/7 reconnect configuration.
- Check the preview, then go live. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room and use its go-live control when the workflow requires it. Check the YouTube player as well as the encoder output for silence, distortion, accidental visuals, or a disconnected feed.
- Monitor the stream. A local encoder depends on its computer, power, internet connection, and software continuing to work. Arrange a way to notice interruptions and restart the feed; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not guarantee a continuous 24/7 connection or prescribe a universal recovery setup.
Choose how to keep it running
The right arrangement depends on what you can leave running and whether you need a local recording. YouTube documents encoder streaming and optional hardware but does not benchmark or endorse particular devices.
| Approach | Setup and continuity | Recording and cost considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Computer with encoder software | Uses a computer running the encoder. Power, network, sleep settings, and software failures can interrupt the feed; recovery depends on your setup. | Can support a local recording if configured. Costs depend on equipment and electricity you already have or need. |
| Dedicated encoder hardware | Uses a separate encoder device. It still depends on power, a working network connection, and the device continuing to operate. | May be useful if you specifically need hardware encoding, but YouTube does not require it. No particular model or price is established here. |
| StreamNeo cloud service | Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so a home computer does not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. | One flat price per slot at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes. |
Or let it run in the cloud

- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; it is one free day per account.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Do not rely on one 24-hour transmission as a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, keep a local recording and consider shorter broadcast sessions. See YouTube’s archive guidance and its recommendation to keep a local backup.

Use audio and visuals you have rights to stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn you; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A license does not always prevent a match: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Make the noise and dark visual yourself where possible, keep records for any licensed material, and do not sample audio from other channels. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Do not assume a repetitive format will be monetized
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and require content to be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, or repetitive. A fixed dark image with repeating noise deserves careful consideration under that standard; the policy does not automatically rule out every ambient stream, but it does not guarantee this format will qualify. YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features for eligible channels, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshooting common problems
- No preview in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is sending to the server URL and stream key shown for this broadcast, and that it has actually started streaming.
- Preview appears but viewers hear silence: Confirm the encoder is using the intended white-noise audio source and that its level is not muted. Check both the encoder output and YouTube player.
- Audio sounds harsh or distorted: Reduce the output level if it is clipping, then listen to the player again before leaving the stream unattended.
- The screen is not dark: Check the selected video source and watch the YouTube player for unintended images or overlays.
- The stream stops: Check power, network connectivity, and whether the encoder or host computer is still running. Restart the encoder and verify the feed in Live Control Room; exact recovery controls vary by setup.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright warning: Review the detected material and rights status. Use original or cleared audio and visuals, and resolve any Content ID allowlisting issue with the rights owner where applicable.
- No complete replay appears: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Use a local recording and shorter sessions if a replay is important.
