FFmpeg can loop a file indefinitely, but you must configure compatible media, encoder settings, network access, and a way to supervise and restart the process. YouTube does not guarantee that a single stream will run uninterrupted for 24 hours.
What you need before starting
- Media you are allowed to livestream: permission must cover the specific recordings and compositions, plus any visuals. If you intend to monetize the stream or keep an archive, confirm those uses too.
- A host that can stay online: a local computer or remote server must have the source files, enough network capacity, and a process you can monitor. Power, connectivity, and restart arrangements are your responsibility.
- FFmpeg: check the installed build and its local help because available options and codec support can vary by version.
- A YouTube channel with Live access: use YouTube Live Control Room to create or configure the broadcast and obtain its current server URL and stream key.
“Kannada,” “traditional,” “devotional,” or “royalty-free” labels do not establish that a particular recording is cleared for this use.
Clear music and visual rights first
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace a live stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even a license from a rights owner may not prevent interruption if that owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived live stream can also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.
Before scheduling a long-running broadcast, obtain written permission that explicitly addresses continuous livestreaming, territories, monetization if intended, and archive or video-on-demand availability. Ask the relevant rights owner or distributor whether your channel needs to be allowlisted. A license’s exact scope depends on its terms; this is practical due diligence, not legal advice.

Set up the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or configure the stream and its visibility and other broadcast details.
- In the encoder settings, copy the current YouTube server URL and stream key. Do not share the key or place it in public scripts, screenshots, or logs; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Use the current YouTube encoder guidance to choose a supported protocol, video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. YouTube recommends RTMPS and states: “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.”
- Set constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary with resolution and frame rate, so select the matching row in the current YouTube Live encoder settings rather than assuming one bitrate suits every output.
- Start a representative test, wait for the preview, check both picture and sound, and monitor stream health in Live Control Room before announcing the stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, with AAC or MP3 audio, and frame rates up to 60 fps. Confirm current compatibility and bitrate recommendations in YouTube’s guidance because platform recommendations can change.
Prepare a video source and FFmpeg command
If your source is a video file
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 to loop an input indefinitely and -re to read a file at its native rate for real-time output. These options do not configure a complete YouTube stream by themselves: you still need to map suitable audio and video streams, select compatible codecs or copy compatible streams, set output parameters to match YouTube’s current requirements, and provide the current ingest URL and key. The exact command depends on your installed FFmpeg build and the file’s actual streams, so inspect the input and check local option help before adapting a command.

If you have audio only
YouTube Live requires a video picture for a conventional video broadcast. Pair the music with a visual source you have rights to use, such as a still image or a prepared visual loop, and configure FFmpeg to combine that picture with the audio. Confirm that the resulting video dimensions, frame rate, codecs, bitrate, and keyframe interval match YouTube’s current guidance. Do not assume an audio-only file can be sent as a complete video stream without adding a picture.
Build and verify the command for your files
- Check the installed version and supported options with
ffmpeg -versionand the local help output, includingffmpeg -h. Installed packages can differ from current online documentation. FFmpeg’s documentation describes the relevant input options at ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html. - Inspect the media streams and decide whether to encode or copy them. Copying is appropriate only when the existing codecs and stream properties are accepted by YouTube and match the chosen output; otherwise configure encoding.
- Place
-stream_loop -1before the input it should loop. Use-rewhen reading a file input so it is paced in real time rather than sent as fast as the machine can process it. - Map the intended audio and video streams explicitly, then set output codec, bitrate, frame rate, resolution, CBR behavior, and keyframe interval according to the selected YouTube settings.
- Use the current YouTube RTMPS server URL and stream key as the output destination. Keep credentials out of shared or publicly readable command histories and logs; use a protected configuration method suitable for your host.
- Test with representative content and verify the Live Control Room preview, audio, and health indicators. Only then leave the stream running unattended for a longer period.
There is no universal command that can be guaranteed to work for every FFmpeg build, source file, and YouTube ingest configuration. Treat a command as a configuration you validate on your own system, not as a plug-in recipe.

Keep the stream running and plan for failure
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the host’s power, network, FFmpeg process, source files, and YouTube ingest connection. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends monitoring stream health; it does not promise a continuous broadcast or specify a universal recovery mechanism for a failed FFmpeg process. Arrange process supervision or manual monitoring, protect access to the host, and decide how you will respond to a network drop, host restart, or rejected stream.
Test the recovery path before relying on it: verify that the host can restart FFmpeg, that the stream key remains available securely, and that the broadcast can be resumed in Live Control Room. Do not assume a single 24-hour output will become one complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; plan archive handling separately and check current YouTube behavior for longer broadcasts.

Launch checklist
- Written permission covers every recording, composition, visual, intended territory, continuous livestreaming, and any monetization or archive use.
- The rights owner has addressed Content ID allowlisting where needed.
- Your installed FFmpeg build and local help support the options and codecs you intend to use.
- The broadcast uses YouTube’s current server URL and private stream key.
- Output resolution, frame rate, video/audio codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval match YouTube’s current guidance.
- A representative test has confirmed preview, audio, and healthy ingest, and you know who or what will supervise recovery.
Cost and hosting considerations
Running FFmpeg yourself does not eliminate the cost of keeping a host and reliable network online. Compare a local computer with a remote server on power and operating expense, connectivity, uptime needs, access to source files, and your ability to supervise and restart FFmpeg. The official YouTube and FFmpeg materials do not establish a universally best machine or hosting vendor, so choose based on your own workload and support requirements.
