The example below uses Liquidsoap; adapt its paths and account to your installation. A running service does not by itself prove that Gurbani audio is reaching listeners, so test the public stream after reboot.
How boot startup and automatic restart differ
systemctl enable configures a unit to start through its designated boot target. The service’s Restart= setting controls what systemd does when its main process exits or times out. You need the first for a server reboot and the second for recovery from process failure; neither guarantees that the full audio path is working. See the Debian systemd services guide and systemd.service(5).
Create a systemd service for Liquidsoap
This example follows Liquidsoap’s production guide. It assumes a systemd-based Linux server and a Liquidsoap script at /etc/liquidsoap/gurbani.liq. Change the service name, executable and script paths, and account to match your host.

Systemd should supervise the actual stream process rather than a command that detaches and exits. Liquidsoap’s production guide recommends running Liquidsoap in the foreground under a service manager and demonstrates an ExecStart command of this kind. The foreground process also lets systemd capture its standard output in the journal. Do not add Type=forking when the process runs in the foreground.

Choose the restart policy deliberately
Restart=on-failure is systemd’s recommended policy for long-running services: it restarts after failure, not after an intentional clean exit. Liquidsoap’s example uses Restart=always, which also restarts after a clean exit. Choose always only if every process exit should relaunch the stream. An intentional systemd stop is not automatically undone by the restart policy. Repeated failures can also encounter systemd start-rate limits, so restarting is not a fix for an underlying script or configuration error.
Check account and network assumptions
Liquidsoap’s guide says its Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and Alpine packages create a liquidsoap account and group; verify that your package did so before using those values. The service account must be able to read the script, audio files and any required configuration. The unit’s Wants=network-online.target and After=network-online.target express a startup dependency and ordering, but do not prove that a remote endpoint is reachable. The target’s behavior depends on the distribution’s network setup.
Validate, enable and start the service

Check the Liquidsoap script before restarting the service:
liquidsoap --check /etc/liquidsoap/gurbani.liq. The Liquidsoap production guide recommends this check after script changes. -
Save the unit as
/etc/systemd/system/gurbani-radio.service, then tell systemd to reload unit files:sudo systemctl daemon-reload.What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Enable the unit for boot and start it now:
sudo systemctl enable --now gurbani-radio.service. -
Confirm boot enablement and inspect the current state:
systemctl is-enabled gurbani-radio.serviceandsystemctl status gurbani-radio.service. -
Read this boot’s service logs if startup fails or the stream behaves unexpectedly:
journalctl -u gurbani-radio.service -b. Logging access and permissions vary by host.
Test the complete stream after a reboot
Use a maintenance window so a reboot does not unexpectedly interrupt listeners. After the server returns, run:

systemctl is-enabled gurbani-radio.service
systemctl status gurbani-radio.service
journalctl -u gurbani-radio.service -bThen open the public stream URL or listen from an independent client. Liquidsoap describes a chain in which a generator sends audio to a streaming server and a player receives it; each part can fail separately. A service marked active only tells you that systemd considers its managed process active, not that the intended Gurbani audio is being served. If your script outputs to Icecast, check the Icecast server, mount or endpoint, source credentials and listener URL as separate parts of the path. Liquidsoap’s quickstart covers Icecast output and advises changing source and admin passwords when exposed publicly.

The unit is disabled: enable the correct unit with
sudo systemctl enable gurbani-radio.service, then checksystemctl is-enabled gurbani-radio.service. -
The command works manually but the service fails: inspect
ExecStartand the script path, then check the current-boot journal. Confirm that the configured service account can read the script, audio and configuration files. -
The unit starts before its remote dependency is ready: inspect how the host implements
network-online.targetand whether its network manager waits for connectivity. The unit ordering does not establish reachability of an external streaming endpoint.Recommended Free Tools

The process keeps crashing: use
journalctl -u gurbani-radio.service -bto find the actual script, permission, dependency or credential error. Repeated failures may hit systemd’s start-rate limits; fix the cause rather than relying on retries. -
The service is active but listeners hear silence: check the audio source and generator output, then the media server’s mount or endpoint, and finally the listener URL. These are distinct links, so service status alone cannot identify which one failed.
