Before you start: check channel access and rights
Enable live streaming
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its current guidance says live streamers must be at least 16. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the moment you want to go live. See YouTube’s live-streaming basics and its encoder setup guide.
Use audio and visuals you are allowed to stream
Create your own brown-noise recording or obtain one with permission or a license that covers your intended use. A sound category is not proof that a particular recording is free of rights claims: a recording, sample, arrangement, or accompanying visual may have an owner. Keep the source files and license or permission records. Avoid commercial music, stock images, or another channel’s loop unless you have the necessary rights.
Make the title and description accurately describe the audio. Brown noise is ambient sound some listeners choose for sleep; do not present it as a treatment or promise that it will improve sleep. YouTube’s general encoder guidance says Partner Program membership is required to monetize a live stream, but that is not a guarantee that a repetitive noise stream will pass monetization review.

Choose how to keep the stream running
YouTube recognizes software encoders, standalone hardware encoders, and cloud services. The practical choice is whether you want to keep and maintain the streaming system yourself or have a service run it. YouTube’s encoder directory includes OBS as free, open-source software and lists cloud services including Gyre and Upstream; a directory listing is not an endorsement. Check any service’s current support for a single audio-and-image loop, terms, price, and recovery behavior before choosing it.

Prepare the loop and visual
Make a clean, repeatable audio source
Export an audio file you have rights to use and listen through its full loop boundary. Check for clicks, silence, abrupt changes in loudness, or a noticeable gap when it repeats. In OBS or another encoder, add the audio source and enable its repeat or loop behavior. Confirm that the audio meter moves and that the sound remains present after the source reaches its end.
Choose a simple image
A still image or gentle visual loop can keep the scene simple and reduce encoding demands. Use an image you have rights to use, and check that any text remains legible on phones and televisions. A camera and microphone are unnecessary when the broadcast is an already-prepared audio loop.

Set up YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Verify the channel and enable live streaming in advance. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement, as noted in YouTube’s encoder guide.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a live stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings. Use RTMPS where supported; YouTube recommends it for encrypted delivery. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Add the audio and visual sources. Verify the audio meter responds, and listen to the actual encoder output rather than relying only on the source preview.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health information. If the stream is scheduled, return at the scheduled time, check the preview, and follow the Live Control Room prompt to go live.
- Watch the broadcast at launch and after changing the source, encoder, or network. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream and monitoring stream-health messages.
Use stable encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe frequency; do not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. A static image does not need an unnecessarily high video bitrate. YouTube’s general H.264 recommendations list 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 8 Mbps for 720p30; those are general live-video recommendations, not a custom brown-noise profile, and may be more than a static scene needs. Prioritize a stable stream and verify the health indicator instead of selecting a high setting just because it is available.

Plan for interruptions and the replay limit
A 24/7 broadcast means the stream is intended to remain live; it does not mean YouTube will create one complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish that a broadcast lasting 24 hours or more will be saved as one automatic replay. If retaining a complete recording matters, make a separate recording or consider shorter sessions, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive workaround.
For a local setup, an encoder crash, power loss, or home internet interruption can stop the feed. Keep an eye on the stream-health messages and confirm that your encoder can reconnect after a disruption; recovery behavior depends on the encoder and setup. After any change, check the preview and audio again.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Confirm channel verification, live-stream eligibility, and whether enablement is still pending. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the server URL and stream key match the stream in Live Control Room, and the key has not been replaced. Keep the key private.
- The stream disconnects or reports poor health: Check the upload connection and reduce video resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the current settings. Use CBR and the recommended two-second keyframe interval, staying within YouTube’s four-second maximum.
- The visual appears but there is no sound: Check that the correct audio source is active, the encoder’s audio meter moves, and the source is not muted. Listen to the stream preview.
- The audio cuts, clicks, or jumps at the loop point: Inspect the end and beginning of the audio file, adjust the edit, and listen through a full repeat before restarting the broadcast.
- You expected a full-day replay: The automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a complete 24-hour broadcast. Record separately or use shorter sessions if a complete replay is important.
