To play Minecraft survival VODs one after another on YouTube Live and restart at the beginning, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source. Add the files in the order you want, leave Shuffle Playlist off, and turn Loop Playlist on. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live with the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Playback runs on your computer, so it must stay on and connected while you broadcast.
What you need before you start
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will run the stream. OBS says VLC must be installed for its VLC Video source to appear; match 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS when applicable. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- The Minecraft video files, arranged in the intended sequence, and permission to rebroadcast them. Having a local copy does not itself establish that you have the rights to stream it.
- A YouTube account eligible to livestream. First-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance; check YouTube Help for current account verification and standing requirements before planning a broadcast.
Build an ordered, repeating playlist in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio and VLC. Create or select a scene for the Minecraft VOD stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video. Name the source if useful, then open its properties.
- In the VLC source’s playlist area, add each video file. Arrange the entries in the exact order you want them to play; the sequence in the list determines playback order.
- Make sure Shuffle Playlist is disabled. Enable Loop Playlist so OBS restarts the source when it reaches the end of the list. OBS documents shuffle as off and looping as on by default, but inspect both controls rather than relying on defaults. See the OBS guide.
- Check the scene preview, video framing, and audio routing. Play through the end of one file into the next, then verify that the final file returns to the first. These checks help catch ordering, missing-file, or audio problems before a public broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, then select an existing stream or create one. Interface labels can change, so consult YouTube’s encoder setup page if the controls differ.
- Find the stream URL and stream key in the stream’s settings. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service, and enter or connect the stream details as appropriate. YouTube explains that the key allows it to accept the encoder feed and identifies where to send it; treat the key like a password and do not share it. See Manage live stream settings.
- Return to the YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview. Check stream privacy, title, description, and other metadata, then start the broadcast from the Live Control Room as appropriate.
- Monitor the stream and OBS while it runs. Because OBS is playing local files, the computer, OBS, and network connection need to remain available for the broadcast to continue.
YouTube accepts feeds from software encoders as well as hardware encoders, so this workflow does not inherently require a dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited setup guidance does not promise an archive for longer broadcasts. Check current YouTube guidance if you plan to exceed that duration.
Check the VODs and the stream before going public
- Rights and permissions: Use footage and audio you are allowed to rebroadcast. This setup guide cannot determine whether a particular VOD, game recording, music track, or other material is cleared for your channel.
- Sequence: Confirm the playlist order and that shuffle is off. A shuffled list will not preserve the planned episode order.
- Loop behavior: Confirm looping is on and test the final-to-first transition before the live session.
- Picture and sound: Inspect the OBS preview for framing and listen for missing, clipped, or unexpectedly routed audio.
- YouTube setup: Confirm the correct stream is selected, the preview arrives, and privacy and metadata are correct before starting.
Troubleshooting
VLC Video is missing from OBS
Install VLC; OBS requires it for the VLC Video source. If OBS is 64-bit, use the matching 64-bit VLC installation where applicable, then reopen OBS and check the Sources add menu.
The VODs play in the wrong order or repeat unpredictably
Reorder the files in the VLC source playlist and turn Shuffle Playlist off. Check Loop Playlist separately: it controls what happens when the list ends, while shuffle changes the order within it.

The playlist stops after the last file
Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. OBS describes this option as restarting the source when it runs out of media files.
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the selected YouTube stream, and that OBS is sending to YouTube. Keep the key private. If this is the account’s first livestream, activation may take up to 24 hours; confirm current eligibility and account status in YouTube Help.

A VOD has no sound or looks wrong in the preview
Check the file itself, the VLC source’s audio routing, and the scene preview. Verify the transition into the next file as well as the first file’s playback; an individual file or source configuration may be the cause.
