To loop a Kannada gospel video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create a live stream in YouTube Studio, then run FFmpeg with -stream_loop -1 and -re before the input file. The first option repeats the file indefinitely; the second reads it at its native rate so it is sent like a live feed. You still need a compatible video and audio format, a stable connection, and the rights to broadcast the recording.
Before you start
- An FFmpeg build available on a computer that can stay on and connected for the duration of the broadcast.
- The Kannada gospel video file you intend to stream.
- A YouTube channel able to create a live stream, plus its server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
- Permission to broadcast the exact video, music recording, lyrics, and arrangement. The ability to send a file technically does not grant those rights.
YouTube live-stream eligibility and restrictions can depend on the channel and account. Check your channel’s Live Control Room before scheduling a broadcast.
Inspect the file and FFmpeg
Use ffprobe input.mp4 to inspect the file’s video and audio streams, codecs, dimensions, and frame rate. Replace input.mp4 with the actual filename. Check the installed build with ffmpeg -version; available options and codecs can vary by build.
The source file is not known in advance, so it is not possible to say whether copying its streams will work or whether it needs re-encoding. Compare its properties with YouTube’s current live encoder settings.

Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the RTMPS endpoint if the setup offers it and your FFmpeg build supports it.
- Keep the key private: YouTube treats it like a password. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or public repository. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
Use the exact endpoint and key from Live Control Room; do not guess or reuse a URL from another stream.
Run an FFmpeg loop
This is an illustrative command template, not a tested command. Replace the input filename and output placeholder with your own file and the exact YouTube RTMPS server URL and stream key. Keep the key private if it appears directly in the command.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i "input.mp4"
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a?
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune zerolatency
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 6M -maxrate 6M -bufsize 12M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "<YouTube RTMPS server URL>/<stream key>"
In this example, -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely and -re paces file reading at its native rate. Both are input options, which is why they appear before -i. The command encodes H.264 video at 30 fps with a 60-frame GOP, giving a two-second keyframe interval. Its 6 Mbps video bitrate falls within YouTube’s current recommended H.264 range for 720p30; it is not a universal setting. Set output resolution and bitrate for the actual source, then calculate a two-second GOP from the chosen frame rate.
The optional audio map, -map 0:a?, allows the command to proceed at the mapping stage if the file has no audio stream; it does not create silence. If the video has no audio, add an intentional audio track if needed for your setup. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS audio and recommends 128 Kbps stereo in its advanced live encoder settings. These are platform recommendations, not a claim that every file needs the same audio configuration.

YouTube recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe frequency, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its current recommended video bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so check the live encoder settings rather than applying the example’s bitrate to another output profile.
Copy streams or re-encode?
If the source streams already meet YouTube’s ingest requirements and need no transformation, stream-copy with -c copy can reduce compute use. It offers less control and must be confirmed against the source file and ingest requirements. If you re-encode, as in the example, encoding consumes CPU or other available encoder resources and may change quality. Do not combine stream-copy with output filters or transformations.

Test and monitor the broadcast
- Start the stream from the configured Live Control Room setup and run FFmpeg.
- Check that YouTube receives both moving video and audio; a running FFmpeg process alone does not prove viewers can see the broadcast.
- Review Live Control Room’s stream health and messages, and check FFmpeg’s logs for errors.
- Before relying on a long broadcast, test the file and setup in advance. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| No preview or ingest | Confirm the server URL and key match the stream in Live Control Room; check that the stream has been started in the configured setup. Review YouTube’s ingest health and FFmpeg logs. |
| Audio is missing | Inspect the file with ffprobe, verify an audio stream exists and is mapped, and encode it in an accepted format such as AAC or MP3. Optional mapping does not generate a silent track. |
| Stuttering or high CPU use | Check available machine capacity. Try a lower output resolution or bitrate, or a faster encoder preset, while remaining within YouTube’s recommended range for the selected codec and frame rate. |
| Playback fails at the loop boundary | Inspect FFmpeg logs and the file’s timestamps and codec parameters. A reported loop issue in one FFmpeg-user mailing-list post from 2022 is anecdotal; it does not establish a universal failure or fix. |
| Stream stops after a connection or process failure | An infinite input loop does not restart FFmpeg or repair a network outage. For unattended operation, the machine must remain on, and process supervision and monitoring may be needed. |
Keep it running: local machine or cloud
With the DIY method, the computer running FFmpeg and its internet connection have to remain available. An always-on server can avoid leaving a home computer on, but still needs adequate upload capacity and process monitoring, and entails hosting costs. The technical sources here do not establish a specific server provider or service recommendation.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Its monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or pricing. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
