To loop one devotional video in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop in its properties. To repeat a playlist, add a VLC Video Source and enable Loop Playlist. These controls repeat playback, but OBS does not document them as guaranteeing a perfectly gapless transition. Test the actual file and scene before a public YouTube stream.
Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to play | OBS source | Repeat control | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| One devotional video | Media Source | Loop | A local media file |
| Several videos in sequence | VLC Video Source | Loop Playlist | VLC installed with the same architecture as OBS (for example, 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS) |
OBS Media Source supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, and WAV. Check that your chosen file plays correctly in OBS before streaming. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation for source controls and supported behavior.
Loop a single devotional video
- In your OBS scene, add a Media Source and select your local video file.
- Open the source properties and enable Loop.
- Keep the source active in the scene for the intended playback. Play it through the end and into the next cycle while monitoring both the picture and sound.
- Decide how it should behave when hidden or when you switch scenes. If you want it to start from the beginning when it becomes visible, enable Restart playback when source becomes active. If OBS closes the file while the source is inactive, it may take a short time to reload when shown again.
Loop a playlist
- Install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS: use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- Add a VLC Video Source to the scene and build the playlist from your devotional videos.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts again after the list ends.
- Set the source’s visibility behavior deliberately. Depending on the selected behavior, playback can stop and restart, pause and resume, or continue while hidden. Preview scene changes as well as the transition from the last playlist item back to the first.
What “without a gap” can—and cannot—mean
The documented loop controls replay a completed file or restart a playlist after the media list ends. They do not promise a zero-frame video transition or a zero-sample audio transition. A brief pause, black frame, or audible seam can depend on the media and playback setup, so do not treat the Loop setting as a guarantee of seamless playback.
- Preview the loop using the exact file, scene, and visibility settings you will use live.
- Pay particular attention to the final seconds and first seconds of a video, and to the playlist’s last-to-first transition.
- If a scene change triggers a restart or reload, choose a different visibility behavior or keep the source active where practical, then test again.
Send the OBS output to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a live stream and obtain the displayed server URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- In OBS, open stream settings and enter the server URL and stream key provided for that YouTube stream. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel.
- Start the OBS encoder feed, then check that the preview appears in Live Control Room before proceeding with the public stream. Consider a private or unlisted rehearsal when appropriate.
- Monitor the stream’s audio and video quality. YouTube recommends checking the preview before starting and continuing to monitor the stream; see its live streaming tips.
Clear the devotional music and video for livestream use
Before going live, confirm that you have the rights needed for the video, music, and other visual material in the intended territories and for livestream use. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions address music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content; a stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party music can cause an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams, and ask the rights owner whether allowlisting is required.
