How to Loop a YouTube Playlist as a 24/7 Livestream

The YouTube Loop button does not make a playlist live. Learn the encoder workflow, alternatives for continuous playout, eligibility checks, and long-stream limitations.

YouTube’s playlist Loop button repeats videos for someone watching; it does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast. To show prerecorded videos as a continuous YouTube Live stream, send them through a software or hardware encoder—or use a cloud playout service—and connect that output to YouTube Live with a stream URL and stream key.

Playlist Loop versus a 24/7 livestream

Loop is a playback control, not a broadcasting feature. It repeats a playlist in the YouTube player for the viewer. A 24/7 livestream is a separate broadcast: an encoder or hosted playout service sends video to YouTube Live, where viewers watch it as a live event.

Repeat a playlist for yourself

On desktop, open a video from the playlist, expand the playlist panel, and select Loop. On Android, start playlist playback and tap the Loop control; tap it again to repeat only the current video. YouTube also documents playlist repeat controls for TVs and gaming consoles. These controls affect playback on that device, not a live broadcast.

Check channel eligibility and prepare the videos

  • Your channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current help page says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
  • First-time livestream activation may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that when planning a launch; see YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
  • Make sure you have the rights to every video, soundtrack, and other element you plan to broadcast. Livestreams must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and a playlist may also breach policy because of the collection as a whole. Review YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
  • Choose and test the video order and repeat behavior in your playout setup. A YouTube playlist’s viewer-facing Loop control does not configure an encoder’s broadcast playlist.

Broadcast using a computer and software encoder

This do-it-yourself route keeps the video playback and encoding on your computer. You need a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the selected stream quality, and the computer must remain on with the encoder running for the broadcast to continue.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Enable YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and complete any channel verification or activation steps. If this is your first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
  2. Choose a software encoder. Install an encoder that can play or receive your prerecorded videos and send an RTMP stream to YouTube. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; consult its encoder guide for setup guidance. Encoder controls and labels differ, so use the documentation for the specific software you choose.
  3. Create or open a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key as a password: do not share it or publish it.
  4. Enter the connection details in the encoder. Paste the stream URL and stream key into the matching server and key fields. Select the video source or playlist, and set its playback behavior to repeat continuously if the encoder provides that option.
  5. Configure and test the output. Choose a resolution and bitrate that your connection can sustain, and use the encoder’s recommended settings for YouTube. YouTube advises leaving upload-bandwidth headroom rather than using all available capacity. Test before relying on the stream: check the Live Control Room preview, confirm that the intended event is accessible, and verify audio and picture.
  6. Start sending, then go live. Start the encoder output and wait for the preview or incoming signal in Live Control Room. When the preview is correct, start the live event in YouTube Studio if required by your chosen workflow.
  7. Monitor the stream. Check that playback continues, audio remains present, and the event is still receiving a signal. For unattended operation, remember that a local power cut, computer shutdown, encoder crash, or home-internet interruption can stop the feed.

Other ways to keep prerecorded video on air

Hardware encoder

A hardware encoder can provide a dedicated broadcasting setup instead of relying on software running on a general-purpose computer. You still need to connect it to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key, configure a video source, and test the resulting preview. Hardware is an option, not a YouTube requirement.

Hosted cloud playout

A cloud playout service can send prerecorded material without using your home computer as the continuous playback and encoding device. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists a cloud-based tool category and names Gyre as an example. Providers differ, so check current support for playlist order and repeats, recovery behavior, video inputs, terms, and pricing before choosing one.

Plan for long-stream archiving and DVR

Continuous broadcasting has an important trade-off: YouTube’s archive and rewind behavior is not the same as an ordinary short livestream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also says DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable for very long streams. These are YouTube Help qualifications, not a guarantee that a particular stream will be archived. If retaining a complete copy matters, keep a separate local recording where your setup allows it. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Troubleshooting a continuous YouTube Live stream

  • No incoming signal in Live Control Room: Confirm that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields. Check for accidental spaces or an outdated key, then restart the encoder output.
  • Preview is missing or the event will not start: Confirm that livestreaming is enabled for the channel and that first-time activation has completed. Check the event state and incoming signal in Live Control Room.
  • Video stalls or drops: Check the computer, encoder, and upload connection. Reduce output demands if the connection cannot sustain them, and preserve upload headroom as YouTube recommends.
  • Playlist stops instead of repeating: Check the encoder or playout service’s own playlist repeat setting. The YouTube player’s Loop control only repeats playback for a viewer.
  • Audio or picture is wrong: Check the source selection and encoder output, then review the Control Room preview and test again before relying on the stream.
  • There is no full archive afterward: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For continuous broadcasts, plan a separate recording if you need a complete copy.
