Short answer: You cannot use YouTube’s regular video Loop control to repeat an active YouTube Live broadcast. If you want menu or kitchen footage to play continuously as a live feed, send the prepared video to YouTube Live through an encoder workflow. If you only want to replay a finished video, use YouTube’s Loop or playlist-repeat controls instead.
What “loop” means on YouTube
There are three different playback behaviors that are easy to confuse:
- Looping a regular video: YouTube documents a Loop control for regular videos and playlists. On a computer or mobile device, right-click the player and select Loop; on a TV or game console, select Repeat. Playlist repetition is a separate option. These controls are for videos and playlists, not an active live broadcast. YouTube’s Loop instructions explain the supported controls.
- Using Live DVR: When DVR is enabled, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. That is time-shifting, not replaying the broadcast from the beginning on a repeating cycle.
- Broadcasting a repeating source: A creator sends a feed to YouTube Live using an encoder workflow. The source can be prepared restaurant footage, but the specific way it repeats depends on the creator’s source and encoder setup.
Autoplay is different again: YouTube describes it as playing another related video after a video ends, not as a way to repeat an active livestream. YouTube’s autoplay help page covers that feature.
Can viewers rewind a restaurant livestream?
If the creator has enabled DVR, viewers can pause, rewind, and continue during the live stream. They cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Apple TV, AirPlay, and older app versions may also have lower rewind limits. If DVR is disabled, viewers cannot seek backward during the live broadcast, though a recording may be available after it ends. See YouTube’s live DVR guidance for the current limitations.

How to broadcast restaurant footage as a continuous YouTube Live feed
This is a creator-side setup, not a viewer-player setting. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow is to configure the stream in Live Control Room, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in an encoder, then start sending the feed. YouTube supports software encoding as an option; it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. The guidance does not say dedicated hardware is required for every prerecorded source.
- Prepare the footage. Assemble the menu, kitchen, or other restaurant video you have the right to stream. Decide how the source should repeat and check the complete output, including any titles, audio, transitions, or gaps.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and configure the stream. Use YouTube’s encoder setup guidance to create or configure the live stream and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- Configure an encoder. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder you choose, and select a source that can send the prepared footage continuously. YouTube’s official guidance supports the encoder workflow but does not prescribe a named encoder or a universal method for repeating prerecorded video.
- Choose settings suited to your connection and production. YouTube recommends reliable settings based on the available internet connection. Check the platform’s current live encoder settings and recommendations rather than assuming one bitrate or quality setting fits every connection and stream. For a higher-production event, consider YouTube’s recommendation for professional-grade hardware; it is conditional, not a requirement for all streams.
- Start the feed and monitor it. Start sending the encoder output, then check Live Control Room for stream health and confirm the public player shows the intended footage and sound. Keep monitoring the source and connection for interruptions during the broadcast.
Rights, music, and people in restaurant footage
YouTube makes the stream provider responsible for having the necessary rights to the content being streamed, including relevant music and audiovisual material, and for complying with applicable laws and platform rules. Before broadcasting, check that you have permission for the footage, menu artwork, music, and any other third-party material. Consider customer and staff privacy and consent as well; the specific legal requirements depend on the location and circumstances. YouTube’s terms set out the provider’s responsibilities.
