To loop a rain-sounds video in an OBS-powered YouTube Live stream, add the file to an OBS scene as a Media Source, enable Loop in its properties, check that its audio reaches the stream mix, then connect OBS to YouTube Studio with the stream settings YouTube provides. Use only rain audio and visuals you have the rights to broadcast.
Before you start
- A computer with OBS installed and a local rain-sounds video file.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube says it must be verified and have had no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Permission to use both the video’s visuals and its audio in a live broadcast. A recording found online is not automatically cleared for reuse.
Loop one rain video in OBS
- Add a source: In OBS, open the scene you want to use, then use the Sources dock to add a Media Source. OBS’s Media Sources guide describes supported local media formats, including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, and WAV.
- Select the file and enable looping: In the Media Source properties, select your rain video and turn on Loop. OBS restarts the file after playback completes. Keep the source visible in the scene so it appears in the broadcast.
- Check audio: Play the source and watch the OBS audio mixer meters. Confirm the rain sound is present and not muted. OBS recommends checking audio and testing settings before streaming in its quick-start guide.
- Connect to YouTube: In YouTube Studio, create or select an encoder stream and use the stream settings YouTube displays to connect OBS. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide explains that stream keys let an encoder send its feed to YouTube; treat your key like a password and do not share it.
- Preview, test, and go live: Check YouTube’s preview and OBS’s audio and video, then start the stream. OBS recommends a short test before your first broadcast.
Use a playlist of rain videos instead
If you want several files to play in sequence, OBS has a VLC Video source with a Loop Playlist option. Add the source to your scene and choose the files for the playlist. This route requires VLC to be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. For a single file, Media Source with Loop is the simpler option. See OBS’s media source documentation.
Copyright, live interruptions, and monetization
Clear both the sound and the picture
YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions say content providers must have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. That matters even for ambient audio: confirm the license covers live streaming and the specific visuals you use.
Know what YouTube’s live checks can do
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the material continues. Even licensed third-party content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Do not assume a loop will earn money
A repeating rain video is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s live-streaming help describes possible live-stream earning features, including ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships, subject to channel eligibility and feature availability. Its channel monetization policies also apply to live streams. If your channel is monetized, you must turn monetization on for the stream to run ads, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.
The cited YouTube guidance does not establish India-specific tax or broadcast obligations for this particular setup. Check applicable requirements for your circumstances rather than assuming that OBS or YouTube setup covers them.

Troubleshoot a rain-sounds live stream
- The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled.
- The video is missing from the broadcast: Confirm the Media Source belongs to the active scene and is visible in the Sources dock.
- The stream has picture but no rain sound: Check the OBS mixer while the source plays; make sure the source is not muted and its audio is in the stream mix.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Recheck the encoder stream selected in YouTube Studio and use the matching stream settings and key shown there. Keep the key private.
- YouTube interrupts the live video: Review the visuals and audio for third-party material, confirm your rights, and check whether the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID if the material is licensed.
- A VLC playlist source is unavailable: Install VLC, and ensure its architecture matches OBS. The VLC source requires 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
