To loop a playlist on YouTube Live, set the repeat behavior in encoder software such as OBS, then send that encoder feed to YouTube. Use OBS’s Media Source for one video or its VLC Video source for a playlist of files. YouTube’s published setup instructions describe a general workflow, not a separate India-specific one; check the Live Control Room for the settings available to your account.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its general requirements also set a minimum age of 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- A video file stored on your computer, or multiple files for a playlist.
- Encoder software such as OBS, plus VLC installed if you plan to use OBS’s VLC Video source.
- A stable internet connection capable of continuously uploading the encoder feed. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover stream preparation.
Choose how to loop the video in OBS
A YouTube video playlist and a YouTube Live broadcast are different things. In this workflow, OBS encodes and sends the live feed; the repeat setting belongs to the OBS media source, rather than to a YouTube playlist. This follows from OBS’s documented source controls and YouTube’s encoder setup workflow.
| OBS source | Use it for | Loop control and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local video file | Enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents Media Sources for Windows, macOS, and Linux. |
| VLC Video | A sequence of multiple local files | Enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default; check both settings to confirm the order you want. |
See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation (dated January 11, 2022) for the source behavior and settings.
Set up and start the continuous live stream
- Create an OBS scene. In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the media source. In the Sources panel, select +. Choose Media Source for one file, or VLC Video for a playlist. Select the media file or add the playlist files. For Media Source, turn on Loop. For VLC Video, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled and set Shuffle Playlist according to whether you want a fixed sequence or shuffled playback.
- Open YouTube’s encoder setup. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then select or create an encoder stream. YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder guide describes this process.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. In the YouTube stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key as confidential: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room and check that video and audio are working. If you scheduled the broadcast, select Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
- Monitor the broadcast. Confirm the video continues to play and the audio is audible during the stream. OBS must keep running and sending the feed for this do-it-yourself setup to continue.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the stream in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS.
Plan for long broadcasts and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, do not assume a complete archive or uninterrupted rewind: YouTube’s DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began.

What is specific to India?
The YouTube Help instructions cited here provide the general encoder workflow and do not describe a different playlist-loop procedure for India. That does not guarantee every account or network has identical settings or conditions, so use the current Live Control Room for your channel’s available options.

If you do not want a computer and home connection to stay on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping as a YouTube live stream from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed. There is no re-encoding: your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support.
