To keep the same fireplace ambience playing, open the video in YouTube and turn on Loop (called Repeat on TVs and game consoles). For several scenes, loop a playlist instead. If you want playback to stop when meditation ends, use YouTube’s Sleep Timer.
Repeat one fireplace video or a playlist
YouTube’s Loop/Repeat control is different from Autoplay: Loop repeats your chosen video or playlist, while Autoplay moves on to a related video. YouTube says a looped video repeats continuously. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists
On a computer or mobile device
- Open the fireplace ambience video on its YouTube watch page.
- Open the video player’s context menu and select Loop.
- For a playlist, start a video from that playlist and enable Loop for the playlist using its playlist controls.
On a TV or game console
- Play the video and open the playback controls with your remote or controller.
- Select Repeat. If needed, check the player’s Settings.
- Watch the Repeat control’s indication: choose the setting for the current video to repeat one scene, or playlist repeat to cycle through the playlist.
Menus and control locations vary by device, so look for the control name rather than expecting the same button sequence everywhere.
Choose the right playback option for meditation

Autoplay is not a substitute for Loop if you want the same fireplace video. YouTube says Autoplay may stop after 30 minutes of inactivity on a mobile network or four hours on Wi-Fi. Its “Video paused. Continue watching?” prompt may appear during Autoplay after 30 minutes on mobile, 60 minutes on the web, or 180 minutes on TV. Set YouTube to stop when meditation ends
For a session with a planned end, open the video player’s Settings, choose Sleep Timer, then select how long playback should continue before the video automatically pauses. YouTube says a silent notification appears when playback pauses; reset the timer if you want to keep watching. YouTube Help: Set a sleep timer
Find a fireplace video that suits the session
Try searches such as “fireplace ambience,” “crackling fireplace,” “fireplace meditation,” or “fireplace ambience no music.” Before settling in, check the video’s length and listen to its sound mix; a playlist can provide variety if you prefer more than one scene. YouTube’s Culture & Trends team has highlighted multi-hour fireplace ambience, including cabin and library scenes, and a playlist of ambient spaces. YouTube reported that fireplace videos reached their highest daily viewership on December 24 and 25 in 2023. That is a seasonal viewing observation, not evidence that fireplace videos improve meditation, relaxation, or health.
What to expect from long playback
Looping is the most direct way to repeat the ambience you selected, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted all-night playback. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish that looping avoids every service interruption, network problem, advertisement, or account-specific prompt. For a longer session, make sure the device has a stable connection and power, and use Loop rather than relying on Autoplay to choose the next video.

Watching with the screen off
Whether YouTube can continue in the background depends on membership availability, content, and region. On February 24, 2026, YouTube announced that background play and downloads were coming to Premium Lite over the following weeks in markets where Premium Lite is available, covering “most videos.” YouTube said Premium remained the option for all videos, including music content and YouTube Music Premium, with ad-free background playback. If you are uploading your own fireplace ambience
For a video you create, use music that is in the public domain or that you have permission from the copyright owner to use. YouTube warns that a track labeled “free” can still receive a Content ID claim. Its Audio Library and Creator Music are resources to consider for longer videos; review any third-party music license for the uses it permits.
