To loop a prerecorded dealership walkaround on YouTube Live, play the video through an encoder such as OBS, enable the encoder’s repeat option, and send its output to a YouTube live stream using the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s viewer-side replay control does not repeat footage for a live broadcast; the encoder must repeat the source. Because inventory changes, date the footage, label the stream as prerecorded and repeating, and direct viewers to a current inventory listing.
Before you start: make sure the channel can go live
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance also states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key.
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance, so do not leave this until the planned broadcast time.
- Prepare a current video or playlist and check that the dealership is authorized to use all footage, music, voiceover and other material in it. YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Its general guidance does not settle local rules or dealership policies for filming customers, employees, vehicles or license plates; check those separately.
Set up a prerecorded loop in OBS
Loop one walkaround video
- Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene you plan to stream.
- Select the video file and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM; verify that the chosen file plays correctly on the computer that will run the broadcast.
- Check the opening and end of the footage. If the transition between them is abrupt, consider editing the file so the repeated playback does not create an unintended black frame, silence or jarring cut.
Loop a playlist
- For a playlist, add an OBS VLC Video source. OBS requires VLC for this source.
- Add the video files in the order you want them played and enable Loop Playlist in the source properties.
- Play through the playlist before going live. Check that each item loads, the order is right and audio levels remain consistent.
OBS describes these options in its Media Sources documentation (dated January 11, 2022). The exact controls may vary with the installed OBS version.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its Live Control Room settings. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to create a stream and obtain its connection details.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube compares it to a stream’s password and address. Do not show it on screen or share it in a public document. If it is exposed, regenerate it in YouTube’s stream settings.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the preview in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. Confirm picture, framing, audio and any on-screen inventory details.
- When the preview is right, start the live event in YouTube Studio if it is scheduled or waiting to go live. Keep an operator available to monitor the feed, respond to issues and stop or correct the broadcast if the footage becomes misleading.
YouTube describes the encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming. It can be software or hardware; the YouTube encoder guide also covers external video and audio equipment for more involved productions.
Keep the inventory information honest and current
A loop can keep showing a vehicle after it has sold, or continue displaying an outdated price or availability claim. Add a visible recording or update date, clearly identify the footage as prerecorded and repeating, and provide a link or contact route to the dealership’s current inventory. Set a refresh schedule and remove or replace footage when stock, prices or vehicle details change. Do not present a prerecorded loop as a live view of current inventory.

Before filming, check dealership policy and applicable permissions for people, vehicles, identifiable plates and private areas. YouTube’s general live-stream help pages do not determine those local or dealership-specific requirements.

Plan for stream length and archives
YouTube’s current encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is archive guidance, not a promise that an encoder or network can run without interruption, nor a guarantee about how longer streams will be archived. For a long-running broadcast, plan monitoring and a restart procedure, and test them with the dealership’s actual setup.

Troubleshoot common problems
- OBS plays the video, but YouTube receives no stream: Check that OBS is using the correct stream URL and current stream key from the intended YouTube event. Confirm that streaming has been enabled for the channel and that the event is open in Live Control Room.
- YouTube does not accept the stream key: Re-copy it from the correct stream’s settings, taking care not to include extra spaces. If the key was shared or exposed, regenerate it and update OBS.
- The video stops at the end: Reopen the Media Source properties and check Loop. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source and confirm VLC is installed.
- A playlist item is missing or has no sound: Test the individual file locally, check the playlist entry and OBS audio routing, and preview the full sequence before broadcasting.
- The broadcast is enabled in YouTube but cannot start yet: First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours. Verify the channel’s live eligibility and allow activation time before the scheduled event.
- The stream looks live but shows outdated inventory: Stop or update the broadcast, replace stale footage or overlays, and make the update date and current inventory link clear before resuming.
