To livestream from an eligible Android phone or tablet, open the YouTube app, tap Create → Live, set up the stream and tap Go live. YouTube requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and Android 8.0 or newer. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Check eligibility before you start
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements apply before the app will let you begin. Check each item if Live is missing or unavailable:
- Your channel has at least 50 subscribers.
- Your channel is verified.
- Live streaming is enabled for the channel.
- The channel has had no live-streaming restrictions within the past 90 days.
- Your Android phone or tablet runs Android 8.0 or newer.
After you enable live streaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours. Meeting the subscriber threshold does not necessarily make the option appear immediately. These requirements and timing are from YouTube Help’s Android mobile live-streaming guidance.
Start a livestream in the YouTube Android app
- Open the YouTube app on your Android phone or tablet and sign in to the channel you want to use.
- Tap Create, then tap Live.
- Tap Edit to enter the stream details. Set the title and visibility, choose the audience setting, and decide whether to schedule the stream or screencast your phone’s screen.
- Review the details, then tap Go live.

You can set a stream to public, private or unlisted. YouTube says the default mobile live-stream privacy is unlisted for users aged 13–17 and public for users aged 18 or older; check the setting before going live rather than relying on the default.

Set the audience accurately for the content. If you are unsure which audience designation applies, review YouTube’s in-app guidance before starting. The Android live-stream instructions do not specify a recommended resolution, frame rate or internet speed, so this guide does not prescribe technical settings.
Schedule a mobile stream
- From the YouTube app, tap Create, then Live.
- Tap the calendar icon and select the scheduled stream.
- Tap Go live when you are ready to begin.
Screencast your phone
The stream setup includes an option to broadcast your phone’s screen. Select the screencast option while editing the stream details if you want viewers to see your device display instead of a camera view. Check what is visible on the screen before broadcasting, especially notifications or personal information.

End the broadcast and manage its archive
When you are done, tap Finish. YouTube displays a recap with stream statistics and creates an archive on your channel. You can later change the archive’s privacy setting or delete it.
What if you have more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers?
YouTube may limit the number of viewers for mobile livestreams from channels in this subscriber range, and archived streams default to private. Changes after crossing a threshold can take time: YouTube says adjustments may take a few weeks to appear, and lifting the audience limitation after reaching 1,000 subscribers may also take several weeks. A channel does not lose mobile live-stream access solely because its subscriber count falls below 50.

Troubleshoot a missing or unavailable Live option
- Fewer than 50 subscribers: The channel does not meet YouTube’s stated mobile threshold. Wait until it qualifies.
- Channel not verified: Complete channel verification, then check the Live option again.
- Live streaming not enabled: Enable the feature for the channel and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Recent live-streaming restriction: A restriction within the past 90 days makes the channel ineligible under the stated requirements. Check the channel’s status and wait until the restriction period no longer applies.
- Unsupported Android version: The device must run Android 8.0 or newer to meet the listed requirement.
- Over 50 but below 1,000 subscribers: The feature may be available while the audience is limited and the archive defaults to private; those limits do not necessarily change immediately after reaching 1,000.
