The fastest way to listen to Amazon Music on a PC is to open the official Amazon Music web player, sign in with the Amazon account linked to your music access, search for a song or playlist, and select Play. You do not need Amazon Prime simply to open Amazon Music, but your available catalog and playback controls depend on whether you use the free service, Prime, Music Unlimited, or purchased music.
The quickest method: use the Amazon Music web player
- Open a current browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Go to music.amazon.com.
- Select Sign in and enter the Amazon account associated with your plan or purchases.
- Use search to find an artist, song, album, playlist, podcast, or genre—or browse Home, Music, Podcasts, and Library.
- Open a result and select Play.
The player normally provides pause, next and previous track, volume, shuffle, repeat, queue, and output-device controls. Lyrics and quality information appear where Amazon supports them. The exact layout can change, so look for the control that performs the required function rather than relying on a particular button position.
If playback does not begin, first check that the browser tab is not muted and that Windows or macOS is sending sound to the intended speakers or headphones. The web player is also the most practical option for Linux and Chromebook users, since Amazon does not document a native Linux desktop app.
Using the Amazon Music app on Windows
Amazon refers to a desktop app for PC and Mac, but its current public download path is not consistently presented. If Amazon or the Microsoft Store offers Amazon Music for your Windows installation, install it only from that official source. Avoid third-party installer sites and “Amazon Music converter” tools.

- Install and open the official Amazon Music app.
- Sign in with the Amazon account that owns your Prime membership, Music Unlimited subscription, or purchases.
- Search or browse your library.
- Select a song, album, playlist, station, or podcast and choose Play.
- Open the app’s settings or audio menu to review quality and device options.
The desktop app may be useful if it exposes offline playback, app-based controls, or Exclusive Mode. Amazon says Exclusive Mode is available in its Windows and Mac apps and can prevent other applications from playing audio while Amazon Music is active. If the app is unavailable or fails to authenticate, return to the web player.
Listening on a Mac
Use the web player as the default Mac method. If Amazon presents an official Mac application for your system, install it only through that official route; do not assume that every older download guide still applies.
For higher-resolution playback, Amazon recommends checking the Mac’s output format in Applications → Utilities → Audio MIDI Setup. Select the output device and review its supported bit depth and sample rates. A Mac, application, output device, and track must all support the desired format for that format to be delivered.

Do you need Amazon Prime?
No. You can access Amazon Music without Prime, although the service and catalog differ by market and account. In the United States, Amazon currently offers a free, ad-supported listening option without requiring a credit card. Exact-song controls and other free-tier features can vary, so do not assume that every free account can play any track on demand.

Prime membership is therefore not the same as Music Unlimited. If Amazon Music only shuffles a title or does not let you select a particular song, check your plan before reinstalling the app. Amazon’s Music FAQ and Music Settings page are the authoritative places to verify current plan behavior.
Finding music, podcasts, and playlists
- Search: Enter an artist, song, album, playlist, podcast, or genre.
- Home: Open recommendations and recently played items.
- Library: Find saved songs, albums, playlists, and purchased music.
- Artist and album pages: Select an individual track, album, or playlist when your plan supports on-demand playback.
- Stations: Start continuous discovery based on an artist, song, or genre.
- Queue: Add tracks to play next or later.
The ability to choose any exact song depends on your plan. Prime’s broader catalog can behave differently from its eligible All-Access Playlists, while Unlimited is designed for full on-demand playback.
Downloading purchased Amazon Music to a computer
Purchased music is different from a subscription download. Purchased tracks can be downloaded as local files and imported into another media player. Amazon says subscription titles are for offline playback inside the Amazon Music app and are not ordinary MP3 files that you can keep using after the relevant entitlement ends.

- Open Amazon Music in a browser and select Library.
- Choose Purchased from the library categories.
- Find the song or album.
- Open its three-dot menu.
- Select Download.
- Find the files in your browser’s normal Downloads folder.

Download purchases through the app
- Open Library.
- Select Songs or Albums.
- Choose Purchased.
- Open the menu beside the item and select Download.
Amazon says PC app downloads typically go to an Amazon Music folder under My Music, while Mac downloads typically go to the Music folder. The location can vary with app and operating-system settings.
Can Amazon Music play offline on a PC?
There are two different meanings of “offline.”
- Purchased music: Downloaded as local files that can be played in another compatible media player.
- Prime or Unlimited music: Downloaded, where the app exposes the option, for offline playback inside the Amazon Music app. These downloads are tied to the account and service entitlement; they are not owned computer files.
- Web player: Treat it primarily as an online streaming method. Do not rely on the browser for offline playback.
Prime offline downloads are limited to eligible All-Access Playlists according to Amazon’s FAQ. If there is no Download button, you may be using the browser, viewing an ineligible title, or using an app version or account that does not expose offline playback.
Getting HD and Ultra HD sound on a PC
Amazon Music Unlimited offers HD and Ultra HD versions of eligible content. Amazon describes HD as 16-bit audio with a minimum 44.1 kHz sample rate and an average bitrate of about 850 kbps. Ultra HD uses 24-bit audio with sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz and an average bitrate of about 3,730 kbps.

Check Windows audio hardware
Amazon’s documented Windows path is:
- Right-click the Speaker icon in the system tray.
- Select Playback devices.
- Select your speakers or headphones.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Advanced and review the available sample-rate and bit-depth options.
On newer Windows versions, the equivalent route may be Settings → System → Sound → More sound settings → Playback → Properties → Advanced. Amazon says Windows HD and Ultra HD support depends on the computer’s audio player and DAC.
Check Mac audio output
Open Applications → Utilities → Audio MIDI Setup, select the output device, and review its supported format. If appropriate, select the highest supported 24-bit sample rate, such as 96 kHz or 192 kHz. The output device must actually support the selected format.
Consider the complete listening chain
- An external USB DAC is useful only if the computer’s built-in audio hardware cannot support the desired output.
- Bluetooth connections commonly use compression and may not deliver the same signal as a wired connection or a supported high-quality Bluetooth codec.
- A “Hi-Res” label on headphones or a DAC does not by itself guarantee Ultra HD playback from Amazon Music.
- Spatial Audio is limited to supported devices and playback paths; do not assume that every PC browser supports it.
When available, the Now Playing screen can show an SD, HD, Ultra HD, Dolby Atmos, or 360 Reality Audio indicator. If the badge does not appear, check the title, plan, app settings, output device, and connection.
Common Amazon Music PC problems
Amazon Music is using the wrong account
Sign out of Amazon Music and sign back in with the account that owns the Prime membership, Unlimited subscription, or purchase. If the library is still missing, verify the account and plan in Amazon Music Settings. Purchases can also be tied to a different Amazon marketplace or region.

A song is unavailable or only plays in shuffle
Prime, Free, and Unlimited do not provide identical controls. The title may be outside Prime’s eligible All-Access Playlists, the account may not have Unlimited, or regional licensing may apply. Confirm the plan before troubleshooting the browser or app.
The browser plays no sound
- Unmute the browser tab and check the system volume.
- Select the intended speakers or headphones in Windows or macOS.
- Check the browser’s site permissions and confirm JavaScript is enabled.
- Temporarily disable extensions, private-browsing restrictions, or content blockers.
- Update the browser and try the web player again.
- Check whether another application has exclusive control of the audio device.
The app will not sign in
Close and reopen the app, then sign in to music.amazon.com to confirm that the account works. If necessary, temporarily test without problematic extensions or security software. Update or reinstall only from Amazon or the Microsoft Store. The web player is the immediate fallback.
HD or Ultra HD does not appear
Confirm that the plan supports the format and that the specific track has an HD or Ultra HD version. Then check the app’s quality settings, the Windows or Mac output format, the DAC, and the connection. Bluetooth may reduce the delivered signal, and the operating system may resample audio.

The Download button is missing
The browser may not support the relevant offline function, the item may be subscription content rather than a purchase, or the Prime title may not be in an eligible All-Access Playlist. Subscription downloads, when available, remain inside the Amazon Music app and are not permanent music files.
Purchased music is missing
Open Library → Purchased, confirm that you are using the purchasing account, and check the relevant Amazon marketplace or region. If the item was already downloaded, look in the browser’s Downloads folder or the app’s Amazon Music folder.
Plan and device limitations
Amazon’s plan rules determine how many devices can stream and what kind of playback is permitted. Amazon describes streaming on up to six devices in the relevant account context, but the exact allowance depends on the plan. The Single Device plan is intended for one Echo or Fire TV device and is not suitable for listening on a PC. For computer playback, check that your plan is Individual or Family rather than Single Device.
Which method should you use?

For most PC users, start with the web player. Use an official desktop app only when Amazon provides it for your system and you specifically need app-based features such as offline playback or Exclusive Mode.
