To keep XSplit Broadcaster running overnight on a Windows 11 PC, set the plugged-in sleep timeout to Never (or longer than the planned session) in Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts. Keep Broadcaster open, start the intended stream or recording, and check a laptop’s plugged-in lid-close action if you plan to close it. The display can turn off without putting the PC to sleep. These steps reduce one common cause of interruption; they cannot guarantee an uninterrupted stream if power, internet or the application fails.
Set Windows to stay awake while plugged in
On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts. Under When plugged in, set Make my device sleep after to Never, or choose a duration longer than the session. Microsoft documents screen and sleep timeouts separately, so you can allow the display to turn off while keeping the computer awake: Microsoft’s Windows sleep and power guidance.
The exact Settings path above is for Windows 11. Windows 10 uses different Settings navigation, so look for its power and sleep controls rather than following the Windows 11 path literally.
Check a laptop’s lid behavior
Many laptops sleep when the lid closes. If you need the laptop closed, check its plugged-in lid-close action in Windows power options and set it so closing the lid does not put the PC to sleep. Keep cooling vents unobstructed; a machine that remains awake still needs adequate airflow. Microsoft explains lid-close behavior and power options in its power guidance.

Start and verify the XSplit output
- Connect reliable power. Set the plugged-in Windows sleep timeout for longer than the entire planned session, or choose Never.
- Open XSplit Broadcaster. Check the intended scene and select the correct broadcast or local recording output. XSplit’s setup guide describes configuring an output and starting a stream or recording.
- For a scheduled YouTube live event, create the event in YouTube Studio first. XSplit’s instructions explain that the event’s Manual Transition setting determines whether starting the XSplit output also starts the YouTube live event automatically or whether you must perform a separate Go Live action. Check the event and transition behavior before leaving the PC: XSplit’s streaming and recording instructions.
- Start the output and confirm it is active. Do not rely only on a planned start time; verify that the stream or recording actually began.
- Run a short trial. Check the setup before depending on it overnight. A trial can reveal configuration problems, but it does not establish that a particular PC, connection or output will remain stable all night.
Can XSplit start automatically while you are away?
XSplit’s Macros Extension can schedule a streaming or recording start. In its scheduled-recording guide, you choose an event time and a broadcast or local recording output, then start that output. Broadcaster must remain running for the macros to work. A scheduled start does not keep Windows awake or confirm that the computer, connection or output remains healthy through the night.
Windows sleep settings or PowerToys Awake?

Microsoft recommends configuring power-plan settings for persistent keep-awake needs, particularly when stepping away in shared environments. For an unattended overnight run, use the plugged-in Windows sleep timeout as the main control rather than depending only on Awake. See Microsoft’s PowerToys Awake documentation.

What can interrupt an overnight session?
- Sleep or lid closure: confirm the plugged-in sleep timeout and, if applicable, the laptop’s lid-close action.
- Power interruption: a UPS can provide short-term backup power if selected for the PC and connected equipment, but it does not keep Windows awake, preserve internet service, prevent an XSplit crash or guarantee power for the whole night. Choose capacity for the equipment and backup duration you need; no particular UPS model or runtime is established here.
- Application or connection problems: leaving Broadcaster open and starting the output correctly does not guarantee the software or network will stay healthy. Check both before relying on an unattended session.
- YouTube event behavior: a scheduled event still depends on the event being created in YouTube Studio and on its transition setting.
