Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To make OBS resume streaming after Windows restarts, launch OBS at your Windows account’s sign-in with its documented --startstreaming parameter. The practical setup is a Task Scheduler logon task with the correct OBS executable, saved profile, and working directory. This starts OBS’s streaming output; it does not guarantee that your platform restores the same live event or recovers from every network failure, so test it with your actual destination before relying on it for an unattended yoga nidra stream.
What automatic restart can—and cannot—do
OBS Project’s Launch Parameters documentation, dated 2021-05-30, lists --startstreaming as “Automatically start streaming.” When OBS launches with that parameter, it attempts to start its streaming output using the selected configuration. It is not a watchdog: it does not continually relaunch OBS if the program later crashes or streaming stops.
Whether viewers see the intended live event also depends on the destination platform. A restart does not, by itself, prove that the platform will reconnect to an existing broadcast, permit automatic starting, or preserve a scheduled event. Those behaviors depend on the platform and account settings; verify them at the destination you use.
Choose how OBS starts with Windows
| Approach | Visibility and control | Timing and network handling | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Startup-folder shortcut | Starts after the user signs in, in the normal desktop session. | Simple, with limited timing and network controls. | A basic sign-in launch when the computer and network are ready. |
| Task Scheduler logon task | Can be tied to the Windows account that runs OBS. | Supports a logon trigger, configurable delay, and optional network-availability condition. | Recommended when you want a controlled, testable desktop launch. |
| Pre-logon or system-start task | May start a process before the user’s desktop is available, so visible OBS controls may not appear as expected. | Starts earlier, but does not ensure the streaming service is reachable. | Only for a specifically tested operating mode that does not depend on the normal visible desktop workflow. |
For a yoga nidra broadcast that you may need to inspect or stop, use a regular user-logon trigger unless you have verified a different setup on the exact PC and OBS release. Microsoft Learn describes a logon trigger as one that “starts a task when a user logs on.”

Prepare and test the OBS broadcast first
- Open OBS normally and select the scene collection and profile intended for the yoga nidra stream. Check the media source, audio source, destination, and credentials.
- Start streaming manually. Confirm the intended video and audio are playing, OBS reports that it is streaming, and the platform shows the intended live event.
- Save the profile and scene collection. Confirm that media files use paths that will remain valid after a restart, and that the required audio devices or routing will be available when OBS opens.
- Stop the test stream when it is safe to do so. Do not configure unattended automatic starting until the manual setup works reliably.
Set up OBS to start streaming at sign-in
1. Create a shortcut with the launch parameter
Find the installed obs64.exe and create or edit a shortcut to it. In the shortcut’s Target field, leave the executable path quoted and append the argument after the closing quotation mark:
"C:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bitobs64.exe" --startstreaming

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use the actual installation path on your PC; the example is a typical location, not a guarantee. OBS also documents optional arguments for selecting a saved setup, such as --profile "name", --collection "name", and --scene "name". Use the exact saved names and test the resulting launch before relying on them.
2. Create a user-logon task in Task Scheduler
- Open Task Scheduler and create a task with a trigger that starts At log on for the Windows account that runs OBS. Microsoft’s logon-trigger documentation supports specifying the user and adding a delay after logon.
- Add an action to start the OBS shortcut or
obs64.exe. If using the executable directly, include--startstreamingin the action’s arguments. Check that the task points to the intended installation and account. - Set the task’s working directory (the Start in folder) to the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS specifically calls out this working-directory requirement for scheduled or automated launches. For the typical example path, the folder isC:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bit; verify your local path. - If the PC takes time to settle after sign-in, consider a logon delay. Choose a delay based on your machine and verify it; no fixed delay guarantees that a slow router or modem will be ready.
- Task Scheduler offers a condition to start only when a network connection is available. This checks Windows’ view of network availability; it does not check whether YouTube or another streaming endpoint is reachable, whether credentials work, or whether the platform is ready for the event.
3. Test a real sign-in or restart
Test with a planned sign-out/sign-in or restart at a time when an unintended live broadcast would be acceptable. After Windows signs in, verify that OBS opens in the intended account, selects the right scene, plays the yoga nidra video and audio, reports streaming, and appears correctly on the platform. If recovery after a router or modem restart matters, test that network arrangement separately. Do not assume success until it has been verified with your OBS version, Windows account, media paths, and destination.

Common restart failures and what to check
- OBS opens but does not start streaming: Check the shortcut or task arguments for the exact
--startstreamingspelling, confirm the executable path, and verify that the task uses the account and saved profile that work when you launch OBS manually. - The task runs but OBS is not visible: Check whether the task is configured to run before sign-in or outside the normal interactive desktop. A pre-logon process may not provide the visible interface you expect. Prefer a normal user-logon task for a desktop-controlled setup.
- OBS opens with the wrong scene or missing video: Confirm the selected profile and scene collection, the media source paths, and whether the files or devices are available to that Windows account at sign-in.
- Video plays but there is no sound: Check the OBS audio source, selected device, and routing after the restart. A device that was available during manual testing may not be ready or selected at the automated launch.
- The task starts while the internet is unavailable: A network-availability condition or logon delay may help with ordinary startup ordering, but neither verifies the streaming endpoint. A fixed delay cannot guarantee readiness after a particularly slow network-device restart.
- The platform does not show the expected live event: Check the destination’s live-event controls and automatic-start behavior. OBS launching its output does not establish that the platform will restore the same event.
- OBS stops at a recovery or safe-mode prompt: Address the abnormal-shutdown cause and verify the prompt behavior on your installed OBS release. An unattended launch may stop there instead of reaching the streaming output.
- OBS streams after sign-in but not after every interruption: The launch parameter acts when OBS starts; it is not a continuing restart or network-retry loop. More elaborate automation would need to be designed and tested separately.
