If FFmpeg exits, use a process supervisor with a delay between retries; FFmpeg’s HTTP reconnect flags are not a general fix for an RTMP publishing connection. The official guidance cited here does not establish a JioFiber router setting that guarantees a stable stream.
1. Check the upload connection under realistic conditions
A broadband plan’s advertised download speed does not establish that its upload path can carry a live stream reliably. Measure upload performance on the computer that will run FFmpeg, and repeat the check at the times when you usually stream or see failures. Test with the intended resolution, frame rate, audio, and representative movement: YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to the actual broadcast (YouTube encoder settings).
A speed test is only a snapshot. Leave margin below the upload rate you observe, especially if it varies, and check YouTube’s stream-health feedback during a test broadcast. A bitrate recommendation is not a guarantee that your particular JioFiber connection will sustain that upload rate continuously.
2. Choose a bitrate and encoder settings
Use YouTube’s current encoder table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you intend to send. As reference points, YouTube’s page, accessed in 2026, lists these H.264 encoder bitrates:

These are YouTube recommendations, not measured JioFiber upload speeds. If your upload performance fluctuates, start with a lower video bitrate that the connection can sustain and assess the resulting stream health before increasing it.
- Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and recommends RTMPS for a secure connection.
- Rate control: YouTube lists constant bitrate (CBR) among its encoder settings.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Use its current table for the exact combination of codec, resolution, and frame rate.
Confirm the precise settings against YouTube’s current guidance rather than assuming one FFmpeg command fits every input and format.

3. Point FFmpeg at the current YouTube ingest details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into your FFmpeg publishing setup. YouTube documents the encoder setup and URL/key workflow in its live-stream setup guide.
- Use the current RTMPS ingest option where it is available and supported by your FFmpeg build.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not expose it in public logs, screenshots, shared scripts, or command history that other users can access.
- Start with a test stream and confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving data and reporting acceptable health before relying on the setup for a longer broadcast.
4. Tell an FFmpeg crash from a connection interruption
Keep FFmpeg’s stderr output and record its exit status and timestamps. If the FFmpeg process terminates, a service manager or other process supervisor can restart it after a delay and log each attempt. Use bounded retries or increasing delays rather than an immediate, endless restart loop, which can obscure the original error and repeatedly reconnect without resolving it.
If FFmpeg is still running but YouTube stops receiving data, a process restart alone may not address the cause. Check FFmpeg’s output errors, the local network path, and YouTube’s stream health. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes stream states such as active, inactive, ready, and error, and health values such as good, ok, bad, or noData; its configuration issues can help identify a problem with settings or missing ingestion (YouTube Live API stream resource).

5. Don’t apply HTTP reconnect flags blindly to RTMP output
FFmpeg documents options such as reconnect, reconnect_on_network_error, and HTTP status retries under the HTTP protocol. Its RTMP section documents RTMP/RTMPS and options such as TCP keepalive, but does not describe those HTTP retry switches as a general RTMP-output recovery mechanism. Check the protocol and options supported by the exact FFmpeg version and build you run; consult the FFmpeg protocol documentation.
For a publishing process that exits, use process supervision. For a process that remains alive while ingestion fails, diagnose the transport and YouTube health state instead of assuming an HTTP input reconnect option will repair RTMP output.

6. Diagnose the local network before changing router settings
If the encoder uses Wi-Fi, test with a wired Ethernet connection at the same stream settings. This can help determine whether the local wireless link contributes to drops; it will not fix an ISP-side interruption, an encoder error, a YouTube ingestion problem, or a power failure. Check that the encoder has a compatible Ethernet port or adapter. A cable is relevant only as an optional way to test or replace the local wired connection.
The official sources cited here do not establish a JioFiber-specific bridge mode, port-forwarding rule, router configuration, or public-IP requirement for this outbound stream-to-YouTube use case. Before changing router settings, identify whether the failure is in FFmpeg, the local Wi-Fi or Ethernet link, the ISP path, or YouTube ingestion.

7. Use YouTube health feedback to narrow the fault
- FFmpeg exited: inspect its last errors and exit status, then have a supervisor retry after a delay while preserving logs.
- FFmpeg is running, but YouTube reports no data: verify the ingest URL and key, inspect FFmpeg output errors, and check the network path.
- YouTube reports a configuration or health issue: compare the encoder’s codec, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval with the current YouTube guidance.
- Drops occur mainly on Wi-Fi: repeat the same test over Ethernet to isolate the local wireless link.
YouTube also documents primary and backup ingestion addresses, including RTMPS, in its Live Streaming API. Backup publishing is an advanced option; it does not prevent an outage on the local broadband connection.
8. Keep the broadcast and archive expectations separate
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after stopping. That archive behavior does not mean restarting FFmpeg preserves one uninterrupted live broadcast. If the encoder disconnects and starts again, check Live Control Room to understand what viewers see and how the current stream session is handled.
