To keep a YouTube gaming rerun live after its playlist reaches the final video, make the source feeding your encoder repeat the playlist—or use a hosted service that supplies a playlist to YouTube. A YouTube player’s loop setting only repeats playback for a viewer; it does not keep your creator-side stream feed running.
Why the stream stops when the playlist ends
A YouTube live stream needs a continuing feed from an encoder or hosted streaming workflow. If the media source stops when it reaches the last item, the encoder has no more playlist content to send. YouTube’s creator-side settings cannot refill that source.
YouTube Help’s encoder instructions say, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” The page also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after ending. That archive guidance does not mean an ended stream restarts or that YouTube will replay an exhausted playlist.
First, distinguish a viewer loop from a source loop
YouTube player loop
YouTube’s embedded-player documentation describes looping a single video by setting loop=1 and setting the playlist parameter to that same video’s ID. This controls playback in that player. It is not a playlist source for your encoder and does not guarantee that your live broadcast continues.

Creator-side playlist repeat
For a local broadcast, configure the playlist or media source in your broadcasting software to repeat, then check what happens at the final item. YouTube documents how to connect an encoder, but its cited setup guidance does not explain how every third-party media source implements repeat. Check your software’s current documentation for its loop option and end-of-playlist behavior.
Keep a local gaming rerun live
- Check the videos and rights. Confirm every intended rerun video is available to your source workflow and that you have the necessary rights to broadcast its picture and sound. YouTube’s encoder guidance reminds creators to ensure trailer audio and video do not infringe others’ content; that reminder is not a complete legal assessment.
- Set the source playlist to repeat. In your broadcasting software, find the repeat or loop control for the playlist or media source. The exact label and behavior depend on the software. Confirm whether it repeats the whole playlist, repeats only the current item, or stops at the end.
- Connect the encoder in YouTube Studio. Create or reuse the live stream, then use the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s stream settings in your encoder. YouTube describes the key as the information that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat the key as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Review the stream lifecycle settings. Check YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop controls if you use them. These govern stream start and stop behavior; they do not restart a source playlist that has run out.
- Test the final transition. Before scheduling a long rerun, run a short test that reaches the playlist’s last item. Verify that the first item starts again and that the encoder continues sending content to YouTube. A player loop test is not a substitute for testing the source-to-encoder path.

Troubleshooting a rerun that still ends
- The YouTube live ends at the final video: the source may not be set to repeat, or its repeat option may apply only to the current item. Check the playlist’s end behavior in your broadcast software and test the transition.
- The player repeats but the live broadcast does not: a player loop affects playback, not the source feeding your encoder. Configure repetition in the source workflow instead.
- The stream stops despite a repeating source: check that the encoder is still connected and sending content, and confirm the stream URL and key in the encoder match the intended YouTube stream. A repeat setting cannot fix a disconnected encoder or incorrect destination.
- YouTube starts or stops the stream unexpectedly: review auto-start and auto-stop settings in YouTube Studio. These affect stream lifecycle, not playlist contents.
- You expect the ended stream to restart from its archive: YouTube’s under-12-hour archive guidance describes archiving after a stream ends, not automatic replay or restart.
