YouTube scans live broadcasts separately from the Content ID review of an archived video. If it detects third-party material during a stream, it may show a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Check the live warning and your channel’s access status in YouTube Studio, and remove the material or resolve the rights and allowlisting issue rather than relying on the dispute alone.
Why a pending dispute does not guarantee a 24/7 stream will stay live
There are two distinct processes: YouTube’s live scanning and a Content ID claim on an archived broadcast. A claim on an archived live stream is made after the stream ends, if YouTube archives it. While the broadcast is running, YouTube can scan it for third-party content and act on a live detection regardless of whether a separate archive claim is being disputed.
YouTube says that if third-party content remains in a live stream after a warning, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A pending dispute is therefore not immunity from a live interruption, a channel-level live-stream restriction, or a later copyright action.
What to do before and during the broadcast
1. Inspect the actual claim in YouTube Studio
Open YouTube Studio and inspect the relevant video’s copyright claim details. Identify the claimant, the segment claimed, the policy, and any territorial restrictions. A claim may monetize or track a video while leaving it viewable; a block policy makes it unavailable in the affected territory. Those archive outcomes do not establish that the material is safe to use in an active stream.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Respond to a live warning immediately
If YouTube warns that third-party content is present in the broadcast, stop using or remove that material and address the warning. YouTube says a stream can continue if the creator complies and resolves the issue; leaving the content in place can lead to interruption or termination. Do not assume that a dispute filed against an archive claim will clear a live warning.
3. Confirm rights and channel allowlisting
If the stream uses licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a live stream can still be interrupted when you have a license if your channel has not been allowlisted. Limiting the stream to territories where you hold rights does not, by itself, resolve that allowlist issue. Confirm the arrangement with the rights owner before relying on the material in a continuous broadcast.

4. Dispute only when you have a valid basis
YouTube identifies having the necessary rights, a copyright exception, or a misidentification or error as possible grounds for disputing a claim. Credit to the owner, owning a copy, or choosing not to monetize are not valid grounds by themselves. YouTube advises creators to dispute only when confident they have the necessary rights to use the content.
For an initial dispute, the claimant normally has 30 days to respond. It may release the claim, reinstate it, or submit a copyright removal request. A valid removal request removes the video and results in a copyright strike. A Content ID claim is not itself the same thing as a copyright strike.

5. Check restrictions if the broadcast stops
If the stream ends or you cannot start another one, check the YouTube Studio dashboard for strikes and restrictions. YouTube says live-stream access may be restored after listed issues are fixed; a copyright strike or Community Guidelines strike can also disable live streaming. The specific status of your channel and claim can only be established from your account’s Studio details.
Dispute versus appeal: know the added risk
For some blocking claims, an eligible creator may be able to escalate directly to an appeal. That changes the response period: the claimant has seven days to respond to an appeal, rather than the normal 30 days for an initial dispute. If the claimant rejects an appeal, it may submit a copyright removal request. Appeal only if you are confident that the use is authorized or otherwise legally defensible; a takedown request can remove the video and produce a strike.

What happens to revenue while a dispute is pending
YouTube’s help guidance says that if you dispute within five days of the claim, revenue is held from the claim date. If you dispute after five days, revenue is held from the date you make the dispute. Revenue held during the dispute is paid to the appropriate party after resolution. These rules address revenue allocation; they do not decide whether an active broadcast will remain available.
Keep the stream running without confusing uptime with copyright clearance
A cloud service can keep an uploaded video looping without leaving a computer running, but it cannot settle a Content ID claim or prevent YouTube from enforcing its copyright rules. If you use any 24/7 streaming setup, the content still needs appropriate rights, and any required allowlisting still has to be handled with the rights owner.
