If your YouTube livestream includes Artlist music, add the correct channel to Artlist Clearlist before you go live, while your subscription is active. That is the main preventive step; it can reduce avoidable interruptions, but it does not guarantee that every automated match or later claim will be prevented. Artlist’s livestream guidance covers music in the video stream, not music played to an in-person audience.
Before you stream: the channel clearance checklist
- Confirm where the music will be heard. Artlist describes livestream coverage for music included in the video livestream. It does not cover playing the music to people attending an event in person. If both uses are planned, check that you have separate permission for the in-person playback. Artlist’s livestream-use guidance
- Check your plan and subscription status. Clearlist is available on plans that include music. Make sure the subscription is active when you add the channel and publish the stream. Artlist says you cannot add channels or videos to Clearlist after the subscription expires, and content published after expiry is not covered. Check Artlist’s current Clearlist instructions and allowances.
- Add the actual YouTube channel before going live. Artlist says the channel must be in Clearlist beforehand. YouTube likewise advises creators with licensed third-party material to ask its owner to allowlist the channel through Content ID. A license alone does not ensure YouTube will recognize the use in real time. Artlist: Live streaming on YouTube · YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams
- Use the right channel identifier. Artlist’s current Clearlist help page advises entering the exact YouTube channel ID rather than a username or custom link. A channel may need at least one uploaded video before it can be added; for a new channel without videos, the instructions direct users to enter the Channel ID. Follow the instructions shown in your Artlist account if its interface or requirements differ.
- Keep evidence of the license and track. Save the track’s license certificate or other subscription evidence, and record which Artlist track is in the stream. Those details help distinguish an automated match from a use that falls outside the license terms. Artlist: Content ID claims
- Check the archive after the broadcast. If you archive the livestream, review the video and its YouTube Studio copyright status after the stream ends. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived livestreams are made after the broadcast, separately from its scanning of the live stream.
How Clearlist allowances differ by Artlist plan
Artlist’s Clearlist help page lists these channel allowances for plans that include music. The figures below describe the allowances on that help page; confirm the current terms and your account’s limits before relying on them, since subscription offerings can change.
| Plan | Channel allowance stated by Artlist | Other Clearlist detail stated |
|---|---|---|
| Social | One YouTube channel | — |
| Pro | Three channels | Unlimited individual YouTube videos |
| Team | Five channels per platform | — |
| Enterprise | Unlimited channels | — |
Choose based on the channels you need to clear, whether individual video links are relevant to your workflow, and whether the licensed work is personal or client-facing. Check Artlist’s current plan terms for the assets and publication uses covered by your subscription.
What can happen during the livestream and to its archive
YouTube scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you to stop using the content. If the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also result in termination. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance

YouTube says a licensed streamer should ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. A stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, even when the streamer has a license. If YouTube archives the stream, a Content ID claim on that archive is made after the live broadcast ends. Live scanning and an archive claim are distinct parts of the process; clearing the channel beforehand is important, but is not a universal guarantee against interruption or a later claim.
Why an Artlist claim can appear despite a license
A Content ID claim is an automated notice following a match, not by itself proof that you lack a license. Artlist identifies several possible causes: its system may not recognize a valid license, the channel or video may be missing from Clearlist, the content may have been published outside the active subscription period, or the use may fall outside the license scope. Check the claim details against the actual track, channel, publication date, and permitted use before responding. Artlist: Understanding copyright and Content ID claims

What to do when a claim appears
- Identify the claimant in YouTube Studio. The claimant determines which Artlist response route applies. Do not assume every claim involving an Artlist track came from Artlist.
- Check the facts before disputing. Confirm the track was licensed, the subscription was active when the video was published, the correct channel or video is Clearlisted, and the use matches the license. Keep the relevant license evidence and track details available.
- If the claimant is Artlist Ltd, follow Artlist’s dispute guidance. Artlist says this is usually caused by a channel or video that has not been added to Clearlist. Check the license and use, dispute through YouTube as Artlist directs, and add the channel or video to Clearlist.
- If the claimant is Artlist Ltd (Music Publishing), dispute through YouTube and verify Clearlist. Artlist’s guidance says to dispute the claim on YouTube and make sure the channel or video is Clearlisted.
- If another claimant is named, contact Artlist with the claim details. Artlist asks for the track and artist, a viewable (not private) video link, claimant information, and a screenshot showing the claim.
- Allow time for processing. Artlist says release can take up to 24 hours after the relevant links are added to Clearlist. That is an upper processing estimate from Artlist’s guidance, not a promise of instant release.
Artlist’s claim instructions are available in its claim support article and its copyright and Content ID guide. If the claim remains or the facts do not fit those routes, use Artlist support and YouTube’s dispute process as appropriate; do not treat a license as a reason to ignore a platform notice.
Do not register licensed Artlist music as your own Content ID material
Artlist’s license page says customers receive a license to use assets, not ownership. It also says assets or projects containing them may not be registered or claimed through content-detection systems such as YouTube Content ID. If you submit material to Content ID yourself, do not register licensed Artlist music as your exclusive reference material. Artlist License: Get to Know Artlist’s License Model
